Old Navy's $14.92 Sale

Oct 03, 2008 @ 3:29pm

oldnavy.jpgFact: Next week is Columbus Day weekend.

Fact: A lot of people get that Monday off.

Fact: A lot of people don't get that Monday off.

Fact: Old Navy knows this, and feels bad.

So, they decided to have an early Columbus Day sale because.. everyone likes sales?

Anyway, for October 4th and 5th, Old Navy stores nationwide will feature 1,492 items will be priced under $14.92. Get it? In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue...

We think they'll have tons of basics: sweaters, simple dresses, tees, and ideally a leather jacket, but that's asking a little too much.

So be patriotic and go scoop up some gear for this chilly weather that's hit us harder than Borat on the runway.

Hooray! Let's celebrate the genocide of Native Americans with cheap graphic tees and flip flops!

Yeah, because Christopher Columbus purposefully landed on San Salvador in 1492 so he could kill the Native Americans there.

I know...first it's Columbus Day, which is bad, and Old Navy thinks we should celebrate by buying garments that almost certainly were made on the backs of sweatshop workers? I'm sorry but at 14.92 you are not getting something made in tolerable conditions; in order for there to be a profit margin and to pay for materials they are externalizing costs onto workers...I know the economy is tough, but how ironic...

Who gives a rat's behind? Cheap clothes = yay. Keep sippin' your Starbucks which I can tell you is not fair-trade and those beans were picked by the little fingers of 10 year old children.

Sweetie it's all about Blue State Coffee, not Starbucks. Also, the clothes will fall apart in the washing machine, I guarantee it. Why not spend a little more for American Apparel and know what you're getting?
