SJP Smells Like Teen Spirit

twilights.jpg Bravo to Sarah Jessica Parker for being brilliant at leverage:

Mere months after the Twilight series gets pegged as the next Harry Potter, and mere heartbeats away from its first movie release, the movie star releases a perfume called… Twilight.

Coty Inc. said in WWD today that the fragrances are based on “moments in time,” but we know the reality:

They’re based on a catchphrase that’s already made millions, and can stand to make even millions more.

Sadly, SJP probably won’t make a cameo in the actual Twilight, which is really a bummer - put her in some midnight blue McQueen and she’d be a perfect goth princess.

Serious marketing scam....

As another commenter said, they are apparently making pajamas and paper and I'm sure a thousand other products that have shit to do with the books, so what's the difference? Perfume with the name Twilight is as much related to the stupid vampire Twilight as pajamas are, which is to say, not at all.

Good lord, the obsession of Twilighters never stops being funny. As though SJP would ever associate herself with that.

This has NOTHING to do with the franchise. NOTHING. Not even as a marketing gimmick. Totally unrelated. I guess the famous song "Twilight Time", the TV show "Twilight Zone" mentioned above, "Twilight" the Elie Wiesel novel, "Twilight" the Leona Lewis album, Elliott Smith's "Twilight" (the Band's and U2's as wel, while we're at it), and countless others are all a takeoff of the vampire series? "Twilight" isn't a 'catchphrase', it's a time of day that has represented magic and romance for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

I don't like to pick on the writing here, but whoever wrote this needs to duck out of the fashion world occasionally and get a library card. Wow.

It's times like these when it makes me really angry that people can't seem to read. This is not a twilight product. I am a fan of twilight. I have all the books, I'll go see the movie, I'd buy the shirts, buttons, and posters if I had the money to do so. Believe it or not, there are actually other things in the world called Twilight. There are songs, shows, colors, and movies, but that doesn't mean that they're about the series. There are many people who don't seem to understand that this is not related to the twilight series in any way. It does not smell like Edward. It does not smell like Bella. It is a perfume by SJP and nothing more.

The definition of Twilight? Well let's see:
1. The diffused light from the sky during the early evening or early morning when the sun is below the horizon and its light is refracted by the earth's atmosphere.
2. The time of the day when the sun is just below the horizon, especially the period between sunset and dark.

Please, for those people who do not seem to get that this perfume is not about Twilight, read this comment carefully.

Sorry If I sound mean, but it's just really getting on my nerves.

SJP probably doesn't even know what Twilight is, and if she does, she most likely learned about it recently. She probably named her perfume months ago. I agree with some of the posters that the word "Twilight" is used across various mediums. HOWEVER, couldn't SJP and Coty have chosen a better time to release it? It's just a little conspicuous to have that happen around the time the movie comes out.

seriously people! this stupid post has twisted this entire thing!

perfumes take months to develop so this has probably been in the plannin stage for a while! esp. since its part of a 3 perfume "set" (dawn, endless, and twilight) its not like you just slap some stinky stuff in a bottle and name it for some stupid movie coming out! you have to decide what type of scent it will have and how strong and then you have to test it like 500 times to make sure the chemical balance in it doesnt give people hives or whatever!

its not like sjp woke up last week like "HOLY CRAP i gotta get in on this twilight stuff for my line of purfumes for adult women not teenagers!"

for more information on the ACTUAL perfume (instead of this post trying to link it to twilight the movie) go to:

Actually, honestly, because I'm such a big fan of both fashion and Twilight, so if Fashionista hadn't linked the two up in an article like this, if I see the perfume maybe a few weeks down the road, I'd brush it off.

I think the writer of this article is wrong to try and connect the dots between these two. Like #50 had said, this is part of a series of perfumes released by SJP.

Although I won't deny that, even though the whole set of perfume was named after different junctures of time and that SJP could have chosen any other word than 'Twilight', it may not be that much of a coincidence.

Twilight the movie and this perfume being released by SJP are two different things. Just because 1) they are released in the same month and 2) they have the same name doesn't mean it's definitely a marketing gimmick on SJP's side.

I love Twilight and hate fashion.
50 is right about how long you need to produce a perfume but SJP really should have choosen a better time for this. All three of the set are somehow related to the books. [breaking] dawn, endless (a vampire's life), twilight

You seriously think SJP pwns Twilight?
-Almost 100 movie theaters are sold out in the US even though it's not released yet.
-The soundtrack is #1 on iTunes.
-The issue of the EW magazine with Twilight on the cover was the most sold one.
-Twilight is the most searched movie on Yahoo. (
-Over 50 million copies of the books are sold worldwide.

Sorry if I seem hostile or something. All this money making crap just upsets me.

WTF.

Twilight is the name of the villain in BtVS season 8, so I guess you're going to accuse Joss Whedon of ripping off Stephenie Meyer, too.

But wait!

Stephenie Meyer wrote a series about a vampire who falls in love with a woman that he's afraid to be with, and much angst results from their relationship.

So kids, the lesson here is...nobody owns an idea. (At least not until Macintosh comes out with iDea software or something.)

I cannot believe I'm really commenting on this.. Ahem. I am a rabid Twilight fan. However, the way some other fans have behaved in this post is embarassing.. we're not all like that, I swear. (I personally haven't even seen the movie yet; so don't mistake my fondness for the series as a crush on a teenage heartthrob.) That aside, I would like to point out that not all Twilight fans, myself included, are obsessed crazies that buy anything with the word printed on it. The only Twilight-related thing I have? The books. That's it. So anyone making THAT assumption, back off.
However. I do recognize that there are plenty (okay, millions) of Twilight fans who are already completely caught up in the hype; shirts, stickers, buttons, posters, and as pointed out earlier, pajamas and binder paper.. ridiculous. Really. Aside from that though, the release of this perfume MAY have been strategic, it may not have been. It could very possibly be a coincidence; after all, Sarah Jessica Parker didn't just pull this perfume out of her ass (I guess that depends on what it smells like) and decide to call it Twilight so that people would buy it. She probably DID name it a long time ago; however, the timing is definitely convenient, as you can tell by the uproar it's causing. But really.. do we need to argue about it? Let's just ask her. =)

SJP's Twilight perfume has nothing to do with the movie. It's just another in her Lovely line. The actual, movie/novel/etc. based Twilight perfume is in an apple shaped bottle. SJP also has Dawn and Endless, so this is another in the trio, not a nod toward the movie.

Just because it's called Twilight doesn't mean it's part of the crazed mass marketing frenzy. The whole thing's sort of gotten out of hand anyway.

LOL at 10 and 18!!

I'm a Twilight fan myself, and when I intitially found out about the perfume, I heard about the speculation that SJP was cashing into the Twilight thing, but I didnt think that was the case. Its a pretty average name for a perfume no?

But then I discovered that the perfume is part of a trio of fragrances... 'Dawn', 'Endless' and 'Twilight'.

The fourth book is called 'Breaking DAWN'... It does seem a bit fishy, with Twilight becoming so huge... But it could be a coincidence. Either that or SJP is indeed very cunning...

Who knows.
I would like to think SJP was too cool to stoop that low.

Whether the name was intentional or not, it looks like it's gonna make her a lotta cash.
