Streetwalker: Under Wrap

Got Her: On 13th and University
Stalked Her: Because we totally thought her pashmina was a jacket because of the way she had it tucked and pulled. Once she walked by, we had to know more.
Shot Her: Because her cuffed jeans and the scarf wrapped around her said it all – this girl was dressing for comfort, yet, looked adorable.
She Says: “I got the scarf off the street and I stole these jeans from my roommate, a boy.”
We Say: We’ve always wished we could wear actual boys jeans as our own. Well done!

Not loving it…sorry….pashminas are sooo 5 years ago….

Very Tibetan! It’s all about that pashmina. i would have gone with a different shoe & glasses, but the pash is soo fab it carries the entire look. koodos!! xo

I mean they are white flats after labor day. So, not in season. I think this girl is not a true fashionista. Seems like she’s trying though. Still a great scraf!

Her boy roommate totally bought girl jeans so the fact that a boy owns them.. totally irrelevant.

I thought the same thing about the jeans. They are women’s. xo

“I mean they are white flats after labor day.” Um ew, that “fashion rule” is completely irrelevant. Who still listens to those?!

Touche! She obviously should have. There are instances where a white shoe will look amazing anytime of year. But if you’re putting the look together don’t be a novice.

my vote is NO on the sunglasses…

my vote is NO on the sunglasses…

i think this girl is cute, i love her look, AND her white flats.

Cool use of a pashmina, the shades need to go…and is it just me or is her fly open?

really like the outfit, but yes, bad choice on shoes, and i’m not crazy about the sunglasses. other than that really diggin’ it :)

cute girl. but, sheesh, if i had a nickel for every person i saw with rolled up jeans this season…

Totally into that pashmina…love the design.
xoxo, Hudson

I have that same “pashmina”. Chinatown- $10 or $6 if you are good at bartering.

Those jeans are not necessarily women’s jeans. They are rolled up and could easily be skinny jeans for guys. Besides that I love the look.

Those are men’s jeans! They are Lip Service brand. I know because they were mine, I bought them!
As for the fly being down, they are button up all the way, sorry no zipper, so you are obviously mistaken.
I have to agree with the sunglasses (sorry Meghan). They look good, but not with that outfit.

i love it! all of it! :)

What a cutie-pa-tutie!

I need to see the dude who owns those jeans. Seriously.

guest 2/3. you’re retarded!
those old fashion rules are no longer relevant.

I think she should definitely loose the I’m-trying-to-look-like-I’m-young-and-Punk sunglasses.
The shoes are nice!

I’m really late to the party here, but I’m starting to realize that fashionista’s philosophy is different than that of its readers.
The fashionista girls seem to pick streetwalkers because they get excited about a particular element of the outfit (innovative use of a scarf), whereas the readers are analyzing the whole outfit (white shoes are too stark and the sunglasses a bit gaudy).
I think that’s why there’s so much discord.
That said, this is how MANY kids/hipsters dressed and cut their hair when I was still in University (graduated in 2004), minus the exaggerated sunglasses and the ballet flats, so this is definitely nothing exceptional, although, yes, she does look quite comfortable.

are you guys gonna post anything new, or do you just quit as soon as it gets chilly out?

Out of all of NYC, you can’t do better than these people? Seriously, there is not one outfit out of this entire section of your site that I think deserves any attention. These are the most boring clothes I have ever seen.

I only like her jeans, shoes, and shades.

Come to Williamsburg BK and you’ll find a ton of other girls dressed exactly the same way. Underwhelmed.

…and i assume you’re of the school that believes style is about spending thousands each season? I tend to think there’s a whole lot more credibility in pulling it together on the budget of a normal human being; anyone can throw money around and come out looking good. Now *that* is boring.
This girl is cute as hell and the way she wrapped her pashmina is totally original.

I don’t just mean that this outfit is boring, I mean that just about all of the clothes in Streetwalker are dull. And no, I don’t think you have to spend a lot of money to look good. I am wearing a $3.99 Goodwill vintage polyester late 1970′s top with bell sleeves and an interesting button-closure at the neckline, an ancient ankle-length black skirt with cool pockets, old boots and a Gap military-styled jacket, finished off with last year’s oversized corduroy Triple 5 Soul bag. I don’t think I look boring at all. I used to live in NYC and was just back there a week ago, and I saw more interesting people on the subway than in all of this web feature. Seriously, you can do a lot better.

PS – I want to add, per my above posts – which I admit are a little snarky, but hey, it’s the comments section of a fashion blog, what do you expect? This is just part of the entertainment value – It’s one thing to be an everyday person, I certainly am, and I don’t dress like a model. But I do work in media, and my point is that this is a fashion blog, meant to showcase clothes that are eyecatching and people seen on the street who exhibit a sense of style (think NY Mag’s Look Book for a great example of this kind of feature). Not much here is showing me that – the worst was that chick a few posts back in the hideous yellow Doc Martens – oy. You could find better in the food court at the Mall of America. There are people in NYC who look amazing on a shoestring – please give them the attention they deserve.

Its funny, they took her picture in those clothes. Her outfits are normally great!
That girl is in one of my classes. I dont know her personally, but i do know that she always dresses well and this shot does not do her fashion justice. she probably just wanted to be comfortable
99.9% she has really great style. i promise.
