Doesn't his family own garment factories in China? I don't see any reason for him to have been given the award. I really wish it would have gone to Vena Cava. Alex Wang needed that money less than anyone else who was up for that award. it's one thing for the cfda to award a successful brand and a talented designer, and I get that. but to award last person in the world who needed that money? have you seen his new studio? Do YOU think that designers who are in desperate need of money to further their careers are out there buying sprawling studio space in Tribeca? wang has a great eye and a great sense of style, but ripped jean shorts, tee shirts, and pastel sweatpants can be purchased elsewhere in the market for under $600. by awarding him the top prize the cfda is showing us that subpar creativity, a vortex of hype, and a trust fund are more deserving of help than struggling talent. i agree, #8.
