Blake Bags Vogue, Too

conde nasts new sweetheart.jpgThis just in folks - Blake Lively will most definitely grace the cover of February’s Vogue.

So everyone was right!

It’ll come just two months post-W cover which means Conde Nast is harboring a major crush. We hope the blond starlet has something new to talk about in Vogue’s pages.

Meanwhile, this means Michelle Obama’s got March in the bag.

Oops, you didn’t hear that from us.

Anyone who watches Gossip Girl knows that the two best actors on there doing God's work with shitty writing is Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick but of course, the media goes with the generic blonde. I haven't heard one person praise Lively's work on the show and I bet the same will happen for her upcoming performances. She simply has not shown herself to be a good actress. I suppose I shouldn't care since I don't read American Vogue anymore but it just irks me to walk by newstands and see the same faces from "it" actors/actresses who just aren't good.

I am sure it annoys many of the people that work at said magazines as well but Lively will sell magazines (or so they think) so they have to do what they have to do. I do find it odd that she is on Vogue and W thisclose together but I guess their markets don't overlap that much.

SO excited Michelle is on the cover of the spring fashion issue! That will sell like hotcakes, I am sure.

Though of course it's always the generic blonde who gets all the attention.. but I don't understand why blondness beats everything. Like, don't they look at other qualities even a little bit? If they would they would realize that Blake is just not worthy of covers in major fashion magazines.

I agree with the majority here.

No way does Blake deserve a cover over Leighton, seeing as that Leighton can actually ACT, isn't boring, NOR is she just another generic-looking blonde.

I hate that Blake's publicist is still trying to push her as the breakout star of Gossip Girl when Leighton (and not pertinent to this discussion but it needed to be said—Ed Westwick) is obviously the runaway fan favorite.

her publicist is amazing to make people believe she is anything special actingwise

she has NO TALENT
has anyone over at Vogue even seen her act, they just have to watch 5 minutes of gossip girl to see that this girl has no talent whatsoever

I don't think any of the GG-cast deserves this cover but if they were going to choose one they could at least have chosen one who could act, like Kelly Rutherford or Leighton Meester.. at least Leighton would have a slightly more interesting story to tell

These comments are ridiculous. Leighton isn't as big a star as Blake (even though she may be more talented), so she wouldn't even be a candidate for the cover. The cover girls have to be popular and well-known to the masses- and that includes all the people who don't care about fashion, but may just want to read about their favorite celebrity. Don't hate when they're just trying to keep up business. Vogue may be a sell-out, but it's necessary if they want to maintain their audience in this country, which is all about stars. They have a fine line to tread as the magazine needs to have relatively conservative fashions, recognizable stars, and easy to digest editorials for their targeted demographic. And if that bothers you, just buy V or one of the foreign Vogues. NOT a big deal.

"i mean, yes shes pretty, but i cant buy her as an upper east side princess when she looks so lower class to me."

I agree. I don't think she looks skanky, but she comes off as an imposter on the show the way she portrays her character. Charming, but too homely and mumbly.

To improve American Vogue:

1.) Go on a celebrity-free diet. Nothing but actual models on the cover for a whole year. Can you stay on the bandwagon, Vogue?

2.) Stop printing ridiculous articles about random plastic surgery and (oh NO!) rich women getting pimples. Seriously? Surgery for knees and armpits?

3.) Spice up your editorials. Models jumping against a grey background! Yay! Not.

I have always wondered why Blake Lively was the break out star, and apparently I'm not alone on this issue. In my experience (and the comments here), out of the six girls I watch Gossip Girls with, only one likes Blake over Leighton. As far as fashion is concerned, Leighton's street style is sooo much better than Blakes, not to mention that Blair is ten times more interesting a character than Serena. So why has the media choosen Lively?? It's really something I've been wondering for a while now. Is it because she's tall blonde and thin? Because really Leighton's much prettier.

American Vogue really needs to improve. One month the issue will be great and then the next couple issues will blow. Leighton should be on the cover cause her street fashion is much better and so is her life story. Sad the blonde makes the cover. Yet another blonde on the cover. Leightons' character is dressed better too.

In my opinion, Blake is a talented actress and will still get better. Give her time, she's young. People are just so jaded.

If you want to blame anyone for the lack of Leighton covers, you should blame her publicist for not doing their job. I'm sure lots of mags would love to have Leighton on their covers.

It's a hard time for everyone with the economy and all these magazines are stopping print, so I understand that Vogue would want to be put someone on the cover who would sell magazines. I'd rather it be models and people actually important to fashion, but if it can't be that focused, couldn't it at least be more interesting and fashionable celebrities than Blake Lively, Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon?

30, Leighton isn't as big of a star as Blake? What has Blake done besides GG and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? Leighton's been on Entourage, which IMO is a much better pedigree than some stupid tween movie.

It's not just that Blake is the generic blonde with fake tits and a fake nose. She really can not act to save her life. And it is not a "blonde vs brunette" thing as some people have mentioned...I heart Taylor Momsen and think she is infinitely prettier and more talented than Blake.

Is it just because Blake plays the "it" girl character on GG that she is considered the star? Taylor and Leighton are sooo much better, it is baffling for her to receive so much attention.

Well, she better enjoy it while it lasts...Blake already looks about 30 years old and she is not going to age gracefully!

And to everyone criticizing Blake's looks...my sister saw her backstage at Diane von Furstenburg and said she's the most unbelievably gorgeous person she's ever seen in her life, other than Doutzen Kroes. And that's coming from a model.
