The one with Marion looks more... fake, I guess. It doesn't look like she's actually standing on it, it looks like she's superimposed onto it. Still a gorgeous image though.

It looks like Lindbergh definitly try to put a modern twist on the older shot by Blumenfeld.
Unfortunately for Lindbergh, his photograph doesn't capture nearly the same creativity and enginuity that makes Blumenfeld's shot so fantastic.. in fact, the girl and the outfit look rather undesirable! The more I look at it, the more I dislike it (Lindbergh's photo)!

your fashion recall is amazing - I can't believe you found that shot of LF. if only there were a game show for this sort of thing.

with the election of barack obama, can we officially retire the "Is The New" meme? It's soooo tired.

you have got to be kidding me - unsurprisingly, i have never heard of a livejournal page called Fashion Fags until guest #8's comment, so sorry to burst your bubble. as for fashionologie, i really can't say why her timestamp reads 24 minutes before mine when that post wasn't even there by 5pm when i was closing up the site. but i'm willing to bet it's just a mistake.

we love when our readers are so inquisitive, but it would be great if you could turn those eagle eyes onto the photo discussion - thanks!

I'm not sure if that is Linda Evangelista... have no idea which building it is... but the clothes have to be Mugler!

The building in the last two photos is the magnificent Chrysler Building in NYC. Those photos are dizzying -- except for the one of Marion Cotillard, which I agree looks faked. But she's lovely, and those shoes are pretty drool-worthy.

The more recent pic of Marion would look great as a horror movie still. It doesn't match up nearly as much in the gorgeous photography sense as the other.

OK, I love that something reminded you of a photograph from from the '30s. I feel a kindred spirit.

Also, I agree that the one of Marion looks superimposed, but it's still cool.

So that must be why Linda Evangelista would not get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day, cause there's no way in hell I would ever do that.

The photo of Cotillard really conveys the vulnerability that makes her such a stellar actress. She looks young, doe-eyed and terrified to be crawling away from the security of the structure. Sort of a metaphor for her career, really.

She's not a model, therefore this is a rightfully a-typical fashion photo in that she's not yielding the focus to the clothes. The Blumenfeld shot brings the dress to the forefront, while Fonssagrives is just blonde-model-without-fear-of-heights (only for purposes of this photo, not to suggest that she's in any way nondescript throughout her career).

This photo is all about Marion, and so am I, therefore it can stay.

I don't think the last two images are of Linda! But Mugler shot those himself on top of the Chrysler building!

I actually got butterflies in my legs when I saw these pics- so afraid of heights...How do they get these pics? I always wonder how much of what I see is photoshop...

The shots on the Chrysler bldg are by Thierry Mugler from the eighties, and that is not Linda Evangelista as some people said. I have the original book at home with the name of the model on it, but on top of my head I believe it could be Claude? I could be wrong, but that much I know. I think it was shot around 1987. - Caryle
