Quote of the Day

“It’s over. Fashion designers don’t understand that, or maybe they don’t want to. Long evening dresses with pearls and sequins — for who, for where, for what? I dare say I prefer Zara, H&M and Banana Republic. That’s serving women and it’s cheap.” —Pierre Bergé at the De Young’s YSL exhibit to the LA Times.

It is unfair and a waste of time to try and even compare the fashion industry of the past with what exists today. Apples and oranges.

Agreed, times change and clothing changes its so pessimistic to see the clothes of yesteryear's as the only great ones. There would be no fashion today.

He was there?
I was there.
Can't believe I missed him!
But Hamish was so nice!

Anyway, I definitely agree with what he's saying. It really is horrible, but it is true that times change. It's just sad to think that a lot of it is going in the direction of cheap, fast fashion. Where's the glamor and the fantasy of yesteryear? Most of the people I know wouldn't even care less about Yves Saint Laurent or the impact he had on just about everyone. Most people I know would be much more interested in LC's nail polish or what's on sale at Forever 21.

But then, maybe it's just my friends or my location.

I think everything needs to be tempered with a touch of realism..these are just realistic times. http://www.bettyconfidential.com/ar/h/a/a02581.html

Banana Republic, to me has the sweaters, dresses, shoes, jewelry, blouses, pants, everything that looks like you would find it at Barneys... seriously. If you go online or in their store you will know what I'm talking about, everything is amazing. And it's not that expensive at all (certainly not as much as Barneys). And another thing.. it's amazing quality!

Sometimes H&M has okay stuff, but it falls apart after a while, and doesn't even look like good quality. BR looks, feels and is good quality.

BR uses nice textiles but really needs to work on the cut. I check out their business wear and the shirts and sweaters and jackets are always boxy.

ouch. Yves would be turning in his grave! well no, actually, his ashes have probably been blown to some far-reaching corner of Kenya by now. and there'll be rolling there i guess.
