McQueen + Target, More Details

alice gibb nesting for alexander mcqueen fall 08 ad campaign.jpgThis morning brings more details of Alexander McQueen’s upcoming Spring collection for Target, via WWD:

1. Exactly how are Go International and Designer Collaborations different? Go International brings young, emerging designers to the forefront, while Designer Collaborations brings more established designers to the mass market, more like what H&M does. Also, all Designer Collaborations collections must be based on a muse (this must be the Runway effect), and Alexander’s chosen Leila Moss, lead singer of The Duke Spirit, for his.

2. Alexander will be designing a diffusion version of McQ, not his eponymous collection, which isn’t as exciting, but we’ll take what we can get.

3. Expect a somewhat edgy collection, based on a “muted color palette of black, white, gray and tan with accents of cobalt blue and bright pink,” plus swimwear and scarves.

But the best part? Since Designer Collaborations is all about bringing the old(er) guard down to a reasonable price point, this leaves the door wide open for potential collections from Karl, Vivienne, Alber, etc. Lacroix at Target? Seriously, who knows.

I'm so excited. I adore his designs, but I can't afford so much as a scarf from his regular collections (college will do that to a person). So this is huge for me. I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

Do you know if the Designer Collaborations will be in regular (even) sizes rather than junior sizes?

So f-ing jazzed about this. As a poor undergrad, this will probably be the only chance I have to add McQueen to my closet in this decade.

WOW. Leila Moss is an amazing singer with a really great style. I'm soooo excited.
I'd be more excited if Target were in Canada, but this just means I have an excuse for a weekend trip to New York or something!

This is very exciting, but it makes me wonder how much the recession depression incited the whole affair. It'll be interesting to see what high-end brands do to stay afloat/relavant to younger generations in such a money-conscious climate.

If they jack up the prices and limit it to a few stores like H&M does, I'll be so pissed. It's Target, for frick's sake.
