Scoop’s Friends Turn Foe

scoop counter.jpgPoor Scoop.

The New York-based boutique’s having a rough time of it and it sounds like things are just getting worse.

Diane Von Furstenberg was the top selling brand at their Meatpacking District location until Diane decided to open up shop across the street in March of 2007. Agreements were made to guarantee different merchandise in each store, but customers were confused and ultimately chose to skip across the street and buy DVF clothes in DVF’s digs.

So then Tory Burch was the top selling brand. The Scoop customer loves a pair of logoe-d flats and double T’d cardigans and we, (ok, I know all this because I used to work there), couldn’t keep them in stock. But now Tory’s heading west and opening up shop across the other street on Washington and Little West 12th.

But Scoop will always dominate the designer t-shirt and jeans world, or would, if Vince wasn’t opening up their own store on the same corner, and Paige Jeans smack dab in the middle of the four Meatpacking Scoops.

So what happens to Scoop when all the brands they sell open their own doors within a one block radius? And what about if/when Barneys finally opens and they sell everything that’s already on Scoop’s shelves and then some?

Will they go so far as to shutter their Washington Street doors? Or will they attempt to revamp the specific locations with brand new lines and a very different vibe from their other stores? Either way, we hope they’re on it.

Time’s running out.

I hate that Scoop. The employees are so ridiculously mean. I was there for an event with a company I used to intern for and they acted so entitled and important...it was actually kind of funny.

Good riddance! No offense to you Britt, but the people who work at Scoop are creeps. They are truly the most aloof, obnoxious people. Their merchandise is pretty pedestrian, too.

I agree, the people that work at that Scoop are so stuck up and rude. Worst customer service ever!

Amen! Scoop preys on fashion victims who want someone to show them exactly what to wear and how to wear it.

However, though I am not their biggest fan, I do think are probably on this problem. Stefani is no dummy.

I also was a former employee for Scoop a few months back. The store is going to shit because of the GM. Maybe if she wasn't downstairs all day long they could ensure great customer service. She only gets away with it because her boss is her brothers girlfriend.

I am truly surprised to hear that because I have shopped there a few times recently and I have always received great service from the store manager and sales associates especially Bill. Scoop might not be for everyone but I (as a customer) have had a great experience there.

I must agree with the above comment. I think the customer service I've received there has been better than every where else I've been lately. And like the other comment I too have been helped by the store manager and the team of sales people she's got in there and my experience has been stellar. I think Scoop will be just fine!

Their customer service is very inconsistent, depending on the day or time you shop, you may get a helpful sales person or a arrogant rude one. Their selection is just tired! May be they should consider more creative and unique collections rather than tank tops and jeans that after a while begin to all look the same season after season. I have crossed Scoop off my shopping list, there are better places with better selection and customer service in NYC to shop at.

Where do you keep all this hatred of yours? Your second chin? Throw in a $.50 raise and you're all set.

Don't forget, you were one of the horrible sales people that used to work there that a lot of these comments are about.

i agree with the previous comments-you do sound bitter and its PATHETIC. you used to work for this company? way to burn a bridge!!! i bet Scoop is glad to have gotten rid of you. personally all of my shopping experience in all 3 nyc scoops has been nothing but spectacular-i always feel like the merchandise and sales staff are amazing and helpful. i am so glad you no longer work for scoop because i will continue to shop there and the company is better off with out you...

did you guys read the story?

the writer's not bitter - she's analyzing a business based on actual facts

it's nice to read such a concise analysis on fashionista from someone who clearly understands the industry. bitter would be ranting about what a terribly company scoop is which she admirably refrained from doing

We are aware of her point of view but if anyone who knew her while working at scoop always knew how bitter and miserable she was. So it only makes sense she would be "analyzing" how the company is doing; the reality is retail is in trouble now because of the economy. Not just Scoop.

I think they are making the best out the situation.

Its my personal choice and decision not to shop at scoop for the reasons I have stated on comment 9. No I never worked there and I am not bitter about anything, as a matter of fact I hold a very good job with a great salary so if I want to take my cash and spend it in a boutique where I get more consistent and better customer service and more unique selection of items thats my choice and my choice only. If the commentators below read my comment properly they will realize that I said that one can either experience helpful people or rude people, is inconsistent thats why I don't like the shopping experience there not to mention that the selection isn't any longer impressive.

the writer doesn't sound bitter though. she actually sounds concerned about the store while the angry commenters sound like they're taking something too personally

I agree with 18...these commenters have a serious chip on their shoulder, and are the ones who sound bitter to me...not the author of the post...maybe they are current employees???

Scoop's problem is that they don't sell anything, other than Free City, that you can't find anywhere else...so there's no reason to go there, other than for that. There are like 8 million other places to find DvF, Tory, etc. in the city. And now their vendors are cannibalizing their business....

Admittedly, their sales are amazing.

Amanda Cotler does not in anyway shape or form deserving to be the GM. She is an obnoxious, rude power-tripping individual that completely takes advantage of her connectioncs with Corporate. She does not know anything about the business and this is why Scoop meatpacking is going down. Pathetic

How SAD!! Most of the negative comments written are ex-employees. The one about Amanda was written by a junkie who has nosebleeds all the time. Get yourself clean and sober, take a shower and you might see the world more POSITIVE.
