Explain

Rodartey

britney.jpgWe had a semi-rude awakening Saturday morning when we caught a glimpse of Britney’s new album cover on Jezebel.

She looks healthy and happy, sure. And maybe we can’t stop humming “Womanizer,” (though we’d attribute that more to Chuck Bass than the songstress), but the pink Rodarte dress kind of knocked the wind out of us. From Alyona on Spring 08’s Runway to Britney on the front of something called “Circus?”

We wondered:

1. Did Britney buy the dress at Barneys last spring and save it for the album cover?

2. Or, more likely, did a stylist buy the dress and give it to Britney for the album cover? Because then we’ll wonder which stylist she’s working with. Rachel Zoe works with Keira Knightly, one of the few celebs ballsy enough to wear Rodarte, but would Zoe work with Britney?

3. Are the Mulleavys secretly huge Britney fans? Which would mean, and this would rock our fashion world, that they actually loaned her the dress.

4. Does Britney know what Rodarte is? If so, will she dutifully sit front row this February?

If you have answers to any of the above, inquiring minds, (that means us), want to know.

The visible netting and the way the fabric is coming up make it look less like the fragile beautiful runway dress and more like a forever 21 prom dress.

Mmm, I don't like it on her. I agree that it looks cheap on her... and she most definitely didn't buy it herself. The whole album cover isn't that attractive in my opinion, actually. I just think something that high-fashion looks wicked trashy on her.

Her left eye looks bigger than the right one!!! But she looks way better than...before. And I don't think she know what Rodarte is.

ewwwwwwwwww I bet it's a Rodarte knock-off from Bebe or something.
No way the Mulleavy's would loan her a dress. No way Britney even knows what Rodarte is.........

come on - rodarte is mentioned all the time in magazines like vogue, bazaar, etc.; how could britney, who presumably reads fashion/women's magazines like most american women, not know what rodarte is?

I love Britney, but her circus is not the greatest show on earth.

#7 yeah sure, but celebrities also ask sometimes their stylists who made the dress their wearing in the red carpet.

@9 and others - if that's so, why give britney so much grief about whether she knows who designed the dress? who cares? would you care if it was any other artist?

meh. i mean i don't love britney but really, not important.

Please. Rodarte is not even that well known of a designer outside the fashion world their lucky Britney wore one of their dresses to be featured in one of the most if not the most anticipated comeback for an artist.

i dont like the way she is sitting in the dress and how the strap is falling down. why wear an expensive dress to just have it fall off and look ill-fitting? nor do the colors of the album work with the color of the dress. i hate this album cover. its just awkward.

she looks good..and its a good fashion direction to go in. and to be honest rodarte is slowing going into rochas (under olivier) territory. seriously, expensive is an understatement. and some free PR wouldnt hurt the rodarte girls.

ahh this dress makes me swoon, love rodarte. i remember keira knightley wearing it in a premiere for atonement and she looked gorgeous.

the "circus" cover is just awful, though. i don't understand how she felt this dress would be appropriate for the whole circus theme though..?
