Rihanna’s Eye Sparkles

rihanna wears creepy sparkly erickson beamon eye patch.jpgWe’ve talked about publicists getting carried away when Z-list stars wear their client’s product, but what about when the product itself is Z-list?

As in, even if a major celebrity who this time around is worthy of their celebrity, wears something by your in-need-of-press client, there are some occasions on which you might want to keep the exciting news to yourself.

Like if, for example, Rihanna were to wear an eye patch. And not just any eye patch, but a Swarovski crystal eye patch that matched the crystal chains hanging from her neck and the unidentified spikes on her shoulders. And if Rihanna were to wear said eye patch on stage despite the fact that she’s not in need of an eye patch and has two well-functioning pupils, you might not really want the press to cover it.

Because though we’re the first to jump on the fashion fantasy bandwagon be it McQueen’s capes or Gareths’ rubber bodysuits, we don’t really think the world’s in need of Swarovski crystal eye patches right now, and we don’t think you really want customers to identify you as the brand who made Rihanna’s sparkly eye patch.

Unless of course you do. In which case, rock on.

"any press is good press"

this is a perfect example of this.

What a badly written article, you guys make no sense.

Is anything in fashion necessary?

Wouldn't an eye patch, Swarovski or not, mess up her depth perception on stage?
Scary stuff both esthetically and physically...

I have to agree with the other commenter.I just don't get this post? I think it's weird that she wore the eye patch in the first place, but from the looks of what you wrote, the only thing getting press is bedazzled eye patches in general.

Maybe she had pink eye a la Agnyss Deyn at Henry Holland? Or maybe she just loved the tartan eye patch and thought it was a fun like commenter 3?

I've always thought about wearing an eyepatch for solely fashion reasons... but maybe I'm just a little weird.

Maybe she had a stye and couldn't wear eye makeup on stage...

you know, im prone to scratches on my eyes and the occasional infection.
on these days i have to cover said eye with bandages or an ugly patch from cvs and therefore do not leave the house.
im thinking that if i had one of these, i would.

The Blonds didn't make the eyepatch. Just the neckpiece and corset.

News was slow yesterday if this piece caught the "eye" of Fashionista writers.

Rhianna is a performer, where else might a Swarovski embellished eye-patch make much sense then a stage? Now if this was worn in her every day perhaps this piece may serve some sort of purpose...

Furthermore the folks of Swarvoski obviously have done their work I mean Fashionista.com will now be showing up in their monthly media report (for whatever that's worth lol) along with any other outlets that pick this up and I mean bottom line Rihanna as much as I detest her is what's happening now in the music industry what brand wouldn't want to position themselves as current edgy young and at the cusp of hip and happening? which is what the folks at Swarvoski if they even played much of an active role in this is striving for as I'm sure eye patches aren't the driving force to their business...

Oh and I find it funny that Swarovski is regarded as a Zlist brand lol!! What?!?

PS. There's this intensifying sense of haughtiness that I get from fashionista.com as of late... Please bake a humble pie and share it among yourselves...

It's just the crystals that are Swarovksi. The eyepatch itself is designed by Erickson Beamson.

the eye patch is erickson beamon per rihanna's team. the stylists did an amazing job on rihanna. it is great that they did something different. aren't we all sick of looking at the same old thing.

fashionista - you are Z LIST for even writing this. you are a fashion site and should be happy entertainers are wearing such amazing pieces. this keeps readers reading your site. without interesting pieces and your site would be dead.

fashionista - YOU can do better than this.

The Blonds and Erickson Beamon GREAT JOB. Loved her performance! Rihanna always comes up with something new and fresh she is always ahead of everyone else. It is sad fashionista doesn't recognize it. Next they will put a picture of someone in outfit from Banana Republic and call it fashion forward.
