When Britney Met Balenciaga

Dear Fashionistas,

I don’t mean to be a traitor to my generation, but I don’t understand how pop stars get dressed.

I was having my morning Sanka and scrolling through dlisted when I saw this promo pic for Britney’s new album.

It was like, “Woah deja vu!”

Where had I seen that skirt before? Then it hit me like a ton of unread Vogues that the skirt is very similar to Balenciaga F/W 06, (the same collection that gave birth to the Olsens’ favorite platforms). The skirt isn’t an exact replica, but methinks it’s a modest retail version of its crotch-grazing runway cousin.

First Rodarte, now Balenciaga? Am I going insane or have my fashion eyes deceived me? And why are her stylists bringing her old but not vintage pieces when there’s so much new stuff out there to be worn? Dolce & Gabbana’s S/S 09 collection would fit the album’s theme perfectly. I have no other recourse than to bring my questions to the lovely panel at Fashionista. HELP!!

XOXO,

Billy the Kid

thanks for the clueless reference btw. Britney isn't someone designers are clamoring to get their new pieces on. If I was working in Rodarte's PR I would have been LIVID when I saw the cover picture. I think the term is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

So that is how double-posts happen. In britney's words "Sorry Y'all"

i think she looks very pretty and happy and she looks nice in the clothes.

i feel like some folks are being awfully mean to suggest that britney (or anyone at all, for that matter) isn't good enough to wear particular designers' clothes.

how about putting some positive energy into the world and acknowledge that rodarte and balenciaga are getting some more well-deserved exposure and that the person wearing the clothes looks great, happy, and healthy?

yay for rodarte, yay for balenciaga, and yay for britney!

@4

I don't think that people are suggesting that Britney isn't good enough for certain clothes. It seems to be more an issue of, if this is your BIG comeback, why are you 1)buying clothes when they are usually loaned for promotion and 2)why are the clothes from several seasons back.

honestly, i dont think a majority of britney fans swim in the same pool as the hardcore fashionistas who know what piece belonged to what season. her hardcore fans that have stuck with her through all the weirdness seem to be pretty mainstream... kinda along the lines of the same gaggle of fans that liked the clothes from the SATC movie, so they probably don't care what season was what. i'm not saying all of them, just probably the majority.

I'm guessing guest/comment 1, has a stiletto hell up her/or his ass.

Livid my ass. Rodarte is great, but at 10 grand a dress, who's really buying. I'm sure a little international "FREE" PR wouldnt hurt them. I dont think that dress was hanging in a store, contacts are made to get a dress and i dont think the Rodarte people hand out dresses to random people. so im sure they knew about it.

I think Brit looks super cute in the Balenciaga-esque skirt and even Rodarte. The idea of her in them sounds pretty bad, but weirdly enough she pulls them off - her stylist deserves more recognition for this feat for sure.
(Come on, remember Jessica Simpson in that outfit with the blue Peter Som silk blouse and short shorts? That D-list British celeb in Balmain?)

Also I think SS09 Dolce & Gabbana would be way too overwhelming for her.
