Té Casan is Now Gone

natalie portman loves those te casan vegans she made.jpgMost people know Té Casan because of Natalie Portman’s venture into vegan shoes. Well, Natalie will now have to leave the vegan thing up to Stella because Té Casan just folded.

Luckily, for those die-hard fans, Bluefly still has a pretty good selection in stock, but as far as the store’s concerned, it’s closed, and the website says they’re updating (code for: we’re done).

We’re kind of sad about this because Té Casan was actually a really cool concept. The company plucked seven unknown designers who had previous experience at major design houses - think McQueen, Versace, Westwood - and had them design a new shoe every week. Not only were the shoes well-designed, they were well-priced, and limited edition (only 74 of each style were made), so you could stand out in affordable heels. Sadly, this is now over.

Here’s to hoping somebody else picks up the very smart idea at a different point in time.

Well, if they were pricey and average as you suggest, thats the reason they went under. But it IS still a great idea if you can get the quality up and the price down. I would try them.

well, next time don't make such ugly shoes, and make sure you do more than five minutes of perfunctory advertising in the vegan community. you know, us, the people who actually cared.

oh i see from the bluefly link they aren't even vegan anymore. well hey. i'm not shocked people didn't line up to buy fuchsia suede Bedazzled pumps. Who in their right mind would wear these?

Guest 6--they were never Vegan, just Natalie Portman's line.

I saw this coming--the store was too large and expensive and had little stock. I got two pairs of boots from the first collection, which was good, but then the promised subsequent collections never seemed to arrive. The shoes were supposed to be limited editions with quick turnover--once a style was gone, that was supposed to be that. But they kept remaking the same shoes, the stock got uglier (some of the original designers' work was hideous, some great). The staff were always nice but it was empty in there and it seemed like a project that lost its way. In truth, the prices were competitive--my boots were about $300 which is good for the quality. But if your styles are ugly--as most TeCasan shoes ultimately were--nobody cares.

What a waste of money. I make my own shoes for $30(non-vegan), and use the money I save to buy juicy steaks. I love dead animals.

ladies I think you missed a W over Vivienne's: "think McQueen, Versace, Westood - and had them design a new shoe every week".
