FCUKed Out of My Discount

Dear Fashionista,

I work in sales for French Connection, and wanted to pass along another sign of the times for the official count:

The other night, we marked down most of the items in the store to some of the lowest markdown prices in company history. And if that weren’t enough, employees no longer get their discount on the new sale items. This has never happened before. The word from corporate is that this is because the economy is in the can.

Happy recession and lots of love,

H

OMG They can't get discounts on sale items?????
A lot of stores don't give their employees discounts of sale items (UO, Anthro, Banana Republic, Gap, the list could go on).
Stop giving these whiners a platform.

If I worked in retail I'd be more concerned with keeping my job that my employee discount...

go to Macy's. I'm sure they have your entire line on discount there.

I thought discounts were incorporated to allow employees to dress for the season. There's really no business in discounting items that are already discounted...not to mention being out of date.

French Connection never gave employees discount on sale items, at least not in the UK. They've not been doing well for a while now, so are easily one of the chains most affected by what's happening with the economy.

i worked retail for FCUK and the discount was 40%. when items were on sale for 40% or more we didn't get our discount on top of the sale price, meaning we paid the same as any customer.

this is nothing new.
