Is the New: In Style & Interview

kate hudson and stella mccartney vintage met ball.jpgStella McCartney’s interviewed Kate Hudson for the January issue of In Style.

Stella asks the actress about the pros and cons of being in a relationship and what it’s like being a single mom - the usual.

But In Style’s Managing Editor told WWD, “Yes, we would certainly pair up celebrities again.”

They think it elicits the most candid interviews which should hold true in this case; the designer and actress are close friends.

But with the exception of Interview (which has been doing this since Andy handed it out on Soho’s corners), it’s like when magazines started ditching models in favor of celebrities. And if this continues like that, well, we can only imagine a magazine written by celebs, starring celebs and about celebs.

And we’d rather not.

Ew. Even making any insinuation that In Style is anything like Interview makes me want to puke. Like a lot of the stupid things you are writing these days. Sigh.

Step up the game!

Oh and PS In Style isn't just copying Interview magazine which isn't the only magazine doing this style of interviews. Rollingstone has had celebs, rock stars, etc as contributors and interviewing each other FOREVER. And so have magazines like GQ and Esquire.

Isn't the field of journalism crowded enough without(more)celebs jumping on the bandwagon?
That makes me feel sad for the journos out there who've studied/honed their craft only to be usurped by those who are famous for something totally unrelated.

well i have to agree that the best interveiws always seem to be ones where its celebs interveiwing celebs or thier co-star or something similiar. If you actually want to learn something deeper about the star in question than i beleive this is a good way to acheive that. its like the star doesnt have as much of a "persona" up and really do answer more honestly and cadidly.

Just like celebrity designers, I wonder how much the celebrity "journalists" actually edit, outline, and even come up with questions for these pieces, even though they get all the credit.

That being said, I do agree with #4: sometimes you find out funnier, more quirky things about the subject.
