PayPal Enables More Shopping for Spoiled Children

Tuesday, Dec 2, 2008 / 11:57 AM

pay pal is my pal.jpgOwners of any stores/sites that attract young, allowance-receiving shoppers, listen up:
PayPal‘s just introduced a new feature called PayPal Student Account, a new way for parents to give their kids (13 and older) an uninterrupted flow of money without those nagging, face-to-face conversations consisting mostly of, “How much? What is it? Are you serious? FINE!”
Parents can set up accounts that drop, say, $100 every week into their kid’s account, and kids can even text their PayPal when they need money, which sends a simple text to their parents asking for more cash when they run out – convenient and impersonal, just the way it would work.
But kids on this account can only shop this way at sites that accept PayPal, so if you’re looking to diversify that customer base, you may want to sign up eBay-style.

I love this title. Ha. My parents never gave me an allowance. I have been working odd jobs since I was 8 (paper route, pet care, etc.). What is this world coming to?

Awful. Now kids don’t even have to deal with asking their parents for money. They have a double buffer through texts and a third party.

isn’t this just a rubbish verstion of a direct debit???
and the impersonal thing isnt bad when i was younger i had a idrect debit from my parents into my bank it saved those anoying convosations of
“can i have my pocket money please
mummy?”
“sorry don’t any change on me”
it learnt me respect of money, bankin’ and al’
that. lol.

I wouldn’t immediately diss this idea, I think it could work with the right parent and the right child. This would be really good for older children (late teens). The world is changing and the ways to be finacially responsible are changing and updating with new technology so yes teach them how to bank, and properly manage credit as well as give them a paypal allowance.
All that being said I don’t think this is the right time finacially for this country to roll this out.
