Pringle Anoints A “Troika”

pixie geldof and daisy lowe for pringle.jpgPringle of Scotland’s recruited Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof and Lydia Hearst to pose in their Fabien Baron-directed Spring ad campaign.

Someone’s having an identity crisis.

The “troika” of It-girls, (and never has “it” meant nothing more than the sum of daddy’s money), star with two actual models in the black and white, sixties style spread shot by Steven Meisel.

Pringle says, “We were looking at iconic faces and Pixie Geldof had been on our radar for a little while, and then we started looking at the friends she hangs with….I liked the feeling of reality…it’s not just pulled together for an ad campaign.”

We say, “If you’re revamping your image to appeal to a younger demographic, just say it. Please don’t call Pixie Geldof’s face iconic. Please don’t assume Lydia Hearst hangs out with Pixie just because they’re both rich and please don’t pretend your carefully calculated ads are snapshots of reality. And please continue to use models.”

On another note, Adidas is adding Jeremy Scott to its list of “celebrity faces” fronting the Spring 09 ad campaign which begs the very important question, do actual real-life customers even know who people like Jeremy Scott, Pixie Geldof, Harley Viera Newton, etc, are?

Because companies are shelling out way more dollars for these people than they would for unknown and gorgeous models, and we’re dying to know - is it worth it?

The answer is: no. When I reference the Geldofs and Hearsts of the world to my high school friends back home, they have absolutely no idea who I'm talking about. I get blank stares. So the supposed "celeb" endorsement will fall short, as people not in the industry or obsessed with the industry will just think their random unmodel-y models.

Pixie Geldof is very well known in the UK, I think she is an excellent endorser for pringle a very British brand, as is Daisy Lowe. But Lydia Hurst WTF?

Bleh. Well, at least it's not Cory Kennedy. Her and Peaches Geldof's photoshoot in Nylon was dreadful. Pixie's was just OK.

Being someone who, as #1 mentioned, is not "obsessed with the industry", it wouldn't make any difference to me whether they used models or socialites; in my mind, they tend to look alike. Unless you've got some investment - emotional, monetary, whatever - in anyone pictured in an ad, he or she looks to the average person to be just an attractive person wearing someone's clothes.

Pixie Geldof is NOT iconic.
Most real-life customers DON'T know who Pixie Geldof, Harley Viera Newton and Jeremy Scott are AND I don't think Jeremy Scott is really a celebrity.
The need to stop using these little "rich because of daddy" girls for campaigns and use real models. That's their job, they actually have a job: They model clothes.

Well, I am pretty sure Pringle sells 10x more in the UK (per capita, at least), so Pixie and Daisy maybe (kind of?) make sense if they are trying to skew younger, though I don't know if people's grandmothers are going to like it. Anyway, I think they are both prettier and more fun than hearst. And harley has a dictionary post on here?!

I'm an industry person and I think most of these girls are rather gross,Pixie and Peaches are rather vulgar

I find Cory Kennedy more original but rather immature and obnoxious with all the name dropping she does on her hipster blog.

BACK WITH THE PRETTY PEOPLE
