Quote of the Day

“Sales associates are peppering shoppers with questions about their holiday plans, taking their pictures, walking step-for-step with them through a store and, on a recent afternoon in Juicy Couture’s store in the West Village, even getting down on hands and knees to embrace a customer’s chihuahua.” - On the new in-store treatment, from WWD.

In London, the Hermes store on Bond St has BIRKINS available to the public. ONTHESELF. I also frequent auctions for antiques; a few months ago preowned Kellys and Birkins used to go for circa $2,000+ and $5,000+ respectively. Guess what they go for now? I saw 4 CROC Kellys at the last auction that I atended and they didn't receive a single bid. WOW.

this is not "new", it's just good customer service.

Wow, that sounds . . . annoying. Really annoying.

Ok, maybe getting on the floor with the dog is a bit much, but I am glad that good customer service is making a comeback. I detest approaching the sales counter and have to listen to the associates chat back and forth about their breaks or their weekend while serving me. Come on people!

yes! I say fire all bad customer service people and hire people in need of a job willing to DO THE JOB CORRECTLY. I deal with clients on a daily basis and if i wasn't nice to them at all times, i'd be fired. Spoiled, rude sales people should watch their backs...I for one, am glad to see this trend returning.

I have not found this to be the case at saks recently - probably why they are not doing as well as neimans. I've been a neiman's customer for years just because they are super nice and helpful even when you are a grungy little highschooler. I definitely am more than willing to spend more when salespeople are nice.

Sounds like the South to me...just having good manners and being kind to people is old hat. (Good ole' Southern hospitality! lol) I have friends from other parts of the country who have moved here and are weirded out when, say, the cashier at Target asks you how your day is going and truly wants to know! Simply, I think that it's good practice, but it's also what I grew up with and am used to!

Little dogs illicit hugs and affection all the time, regardless of the economic climate or tax bracket of the person (including salesperson) who encounters them. Sounds like a reporter scraping the bottom of the bucket for a timely trend piece.
