Fashion Is Fun, Shopping
Simon & Julie Hawk Their Wares
By Britt Aboutaleb Tuesday, Dec 2, 2008 / 2:14 PMBet you didn’t think anything could beat last year’s Barneys Christmas video – but leave it to Julie and Simon to get you into the goofiest holiday spirit.
They’re celebrating all counter-cultures this season, a Barneys Hippie Holiday, and have a plethora of gifts they think your loved ones need – like Jonathan Adler candles (ahem), peace sign-embossed Goyard bags, “re-birthed” Loomstate t-shirts and a Henry Cuir bag that’s “even made by a hippie.”
And in case you, like Simon, think the phrase “dans tes bras” means “in your bra,” Julie clears it up.
Oh, also, they pretend to smoke pot – so obviously, you should watch it.

wow. I thought for sure when I saw Simon’s face you would be poking fun at how pathetic this video is. I am embarrassed for them. This does not inspire me to buy anything from Barney’s….what a shame.
are you kidding me? i love this! i don’t like the stuff they’re hawking so much but simon doonan seems like one of the most real and affable people in the fashion business. i want a mini simon to carry around in my pocket and say silly things to me all day. it’s a nice break from all the stiff, conventional advertising i’m used to seeing.
Someone didn’t like the Barneys Xmas windows: http://confessionsvelvetropes.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/11/anti-recession-chic-thanksgiving-dinner-party-at-the-home-of-glenn-belverio-plus-a-look-back-at-the-barneys-hippie-dippy-ch.html
this REEKS of desperation. i agree with #1. ridiculously stupid video.
yawn! This is sad.
you guys have to remember, barneys’ phrase is “taste luxury HUMOR”. they’re just having a bit of fun and it doesn’t sound desperate at all. all their videos are meant purely to put a smile on your face. much better than some of their uptight and all too serious competitors. have a laugh, it’s ok!
to guests #1, 4 and 5.
snoooooooooore.
lighten up. it’s just fashion.
