SOMA Needs Interns

soma magazine cover evan rachel wood.jpgJust because magazines are folding by the dozen doesn’t mean they don’t need interns!

New York based SOMA mag wants to know if you’re interested.

They need you in the fashion department, so you won’t get to write, but if you’re obsessed with fashion/want to be a stylist/need to work at a fashion mag in any capacity, this one’s for you.

Responsibilities include invoicing samples, handling pick-ups, organizing look books and the closet, going crazy during fashion week and meeting really cool people.

If you’re free at least two days a week, currently enrolled in some sort of higher education, and this sounds like the gig for you, email your resume and a quick cover letter to fashion.assistant@somamagazine.com with FASHION INTERN in the subject line.

Good luck!

SOMA mag in NY? When did that start? Just recently? Their main office is in SF... hence the title SOMA.

Yes, to my knowledge SOMA is based in San Fransisco. They might shoot their editorial here in NY though.

soma is a fake magazine that the publisher uses to promote his own restaurants and businesses. i was an intern at soma many years ago and was fired for allegedly being a "spy" when i landed a clip in a local newspaper. don't apply for this - there have got to be better options elsewhere.

Hi! Allow me to clarify a few things - SOMA is based in SF but this week they launched a New York fashion team headed up by the newly appointed Senior Fashion Editor Kemal Harris. Editorials will be shot here, L.A. and other locations for each issue. We're sorry that guest#3 had a negative experience many years ago. We assure all applicants that interning with the New York team will be a rewarding and fun experience.
If you have questions, email me at the address listed in the posting above. Thanks!

SOMA magazine in SF is a horrible, HORRENDOUS place to intern. I have no knowledge about the SOMA in NY but I hope for any intern's sake, it's better than the one in SF.

It's also SOMA policy to not give bylines/credit to interns. I wrote numerous reviews and got no credit whatsoever. Hopefully that policy has changed. If not, don't waste your time; at least work for free where you can build up a portfolio.

you guys are all right about SOMA. Ali is the worst person to work for. He fires interns like there is no tomorrow. You are lucky to be able to stay there for 3 months and receive absolutely no credit.

i have never worked in a place that was so unprofessional. if Ali won't be at the NY location, it might not be as bad.

ROFL. "Fake magazine" is the best way to describe this. Not only is SOMA not read or respected by anybody, Ali is easily one of the most vile people I have ever met in my entire life. He is the perfect example of someone who uses a magazine as a way to gain access and feel like an insider. Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe this magazine and the editor in chief/ publisher.
