Quote of the Day

“Umpteenth time around, arguably the only trick that would have made BS look more try-hard and ultimately conventional would have been if she had got Mark Ronson to produce her record.” - Hadley Freeman, on the Beyonce/Sasha Fierce (BS) style change, in the Guardian.

Long-term fans of Beyonce KNOW that "Sasha Fierce" isn't some sudden "try-hard" attempt but a long-time alter ego that she's been referencing since her days with Destiny Child's. I'm annoyed when people with very little knowledge on the artist decide to trash on them. The fuck does she know anyway?

There's nothing wrong with trying hard anyway. That's HOW YOU KEEP INTEREST.

I couldn't agree more, TyTy. Haters! Sasha Fierce has been around for the longest. Where has she been?

I'm so glad we can all agree on that, sasha fierce was always there, i'm so suprised this comes as a shock to the press and some people when she always talks about sasha ...theres no try hard anything ...and I LOVE mark ronson.

There is only one Sasha Fierce in town. And that's Sasha Pivovarova.

Listen Beyoncites, I'm sure the problem is Beyonce's "ooo ooo lookatme in Gareth Pugh" makeunder apposed to her calling herself Sasha Fierce. I think all of this extra in the wardrobe dept. is to make up for the fact that her CD lacks any type of wow factor. With all that Mugler floating around the stage whos gonna care what shes saying? I like Beyonce but if Britney wore a metal glove for two weeks she'd be in somebodies mental institution.

You're right aBeecxyz, how dare she want to be styled impressively during her tour. She should just wear Wet Seal because touring isn't at ALL about the presentation, no sir.

I couldn't agree more aBEEcxyz Dude, let's not pretend like she's always loooooooved these designers so much. Have you seen House of Dereon? It's pretty awful. And yes, she does looks weird in Pugh and Mugler. She's not exactly high fashion, more so catalogy (though I would never say Wetseal TyTy. . . that's a little low, don't you think?). No denying though, I don't like her very much. What's up with people wearing weaves while selling hair products (Feria)? That drives me so nuts. Let's just give African American girls all over a completely unachievable goal to strive towards, shall we? Grrr.

Ok TyTy I see you'll be the one responding to everybody that doesnt post how much they love Beyonce. But as I said before, shes overcompensating. Its too much. Its not her & thats obvious. I never said she should go back to her Tina Knowles creations, I'm just saying her entire look is forced.

Umm the Beyonce hate is because being fashionable (which she is not) and being pretty (which she is) are completely different things. Being fashionable and being a talented singer (which she is) are also completely different. She knows what she needs to pretend to be into and she is so damn fierce she'll pretend until we believe it. And I hate it when people say things like "yah she should do wet seal." That's so absurd. As if everyone has tp wear either high fashion or wet seal and that't the only two choices you have.

guest #11, what are you even saying? that people who aren't "fashionable" (whatever the hell that means) shouldn't wear high fashion? how do you decide who is fashionable enough to wear it? pretty much every celebrity is styled within an inch to their lives by someone else so good luck guessing who is or who isn't.

at the end of the day it's all about who has the $$ to do it. by the way, i'm no beyonce fan or whatever you want to call, i've barely ever listened to her music.

I really don't think we should start pouring haterade over Hadley Freeman. The calibre of her writing is tenfold what you find on most other fashion websites or in most fashion publications. The woman is astute, hilarious and cynical and I love her for it. Fashionista could do with a little more of that kind of bite.

I don't see what all the hate is about, over time people's sense of style changes. That should be considered a good thing. I like what she has been wearing lately, good for her that she's opening her eyes to other designers.

and TyTy, if you aren't fashionable why in the hell would you ever wear high fashion? the people who aren't fashionable who try to pull off high fashion always end up looking..well..like beyonce.

Whether you're Beyonce's number one fan girl or her ultimate critic, you have to admit: Hadley Freeman's acerbic description of the generic 'edgification' of female pop stars is hilarious - and spot on.

Hadley Freeman tried way too hard in that article. There is a fine line between being enjoyable to read for your sharp and scathing work and just being a whiny brat. In my humble opinion, if you are going to focus your article on Beyonce's new "futuristic" persona, at least use a more recent photograph than one from the BET's last year, in which Beyonce also sported that killer pair of Balenciaga gold-plated pants. Also, I can't think of many "pink frilly" dresses her mom designed for her. I remember that pretty nice canary yellow sheath from the Grammys though, and I thought that was pretty fashion forward any way you sliced it. I also remember a classic velvet Versace and a sweet as heck Elie Saab gown she wore to the Dreamgirls premiere. How do I remember these dresses? Because Beyonce has presence. She fills a dress better than many because she wears it and doesn't let it wear her. She's always been that way and Ms. Freedman brings up lame and insignificant examples to try and prove her very flimsy point.

Say what you will about the woman, but she knows how to put on a show and appeal to the eye. I'm sorry, but since when has an interesting dress made you want to turn off a performance? Probably never. B can sing great songs, dance in heels and rock most any outfit. I love her style and I don't care if a stylist helped her achieve it. She is a great example of how you can have fun with fashion, being glamorous one day, casual the next, and futuristic another.

Sounds like guest 18 has a bit of a Beyonce obsession going on. I'll be damned if I can catalog a memorable fashion moment where Beyonce's made me go "Wow". But hey, that's just me. You can take her or leave her. Hadley Freeman chose the latter, isn't she free to voice that opinion just as you've voiced your's guest 18?

I just dont understand why people have such a HUGE problem with Beyonce. Like 18 said, she's one of the FEW people who can actually fill out any of the dresses these designers make and makes it her own...

i swear the people on here only like the boring sticks and twigs, who can barely fit their clothes and cant seem to handle those like Beyonce who have a PERSONALITY or some kind of ENERGY...

let the woman do what she does best and leave the hating comments to yourself, either way she's gonna keep making money and keep being "over the top"... get over it

No guest 21, I won't get over it. This subject repeatedly annoys the hell out of me. What bothers me most is when Bjork steps out in a badass swan dress, I bet all you Beyonce lovers were like "eeeewww ohmigod, she's sooooo weird". When Bjork wore Alexander McQueen, you all were probably walking around in mainstream mall stuff hating on girls who wore rave wear (or really anything out of the norm). Basically people such as Bjork totally influence fashion and no one gives them much credit, except those in the know (but what's worse, people roll their eyes and call them "crazy"). But when Beyonce wears some avant garde stuff, it's because she's "awesome and has always been so fashion forward". Bullshit!

I've never seen a significant difference in the way Beyonce dresses versus the way Madonna/Britney/Christina, etc. dress, both on stage and off. Is it shiny? Is it revealing? They've all worn some version of it.

to guest 22...

i love Beyonce, always have and always will...she embodies a strong black woman, something i aspire to become myself

and i actually dont have a problem with Bjork, i think she's kinda awesome...she marches to her own drum, something i do myself

and for the record, you have no right to "assume" that i talk like "eeeeeeeewwww" or "ohmigod.. im 20 , my vocabulary is more than those two words and dont live the valley. and may i ask where you shop since you seem to be too good for the "mainstream mall"??...thanks

I personally loooove Beyonce, but I do think she's copying Rihanna with the edgy look. It doesn't look well on her in my opinion because she's not tall and skinny & her hair is not edgy enough to go with the clothes like rihanna's. Just my opinion, but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter because homegirl is still making her money!
