Whitney Follows Non-Job with Non-Job

lauren conrad is so surprised by whitney port.jpgFrom a conversation last night:

Us: “No, but I think Whitney actually does work there. People saw her at he DVF show in September, like organizing models backstage with a clipboard.”

Girl: “Hm, weird, because she kind of doesn’t.”

Us: “Hm?”

Girl: “Well, she just goes into the office to shoot scenes like she works there, like what they did on The Hills. Actually, it’s kind of sad. When they film her spots, they make the girls that actually work there move from their desks and into some cubicles in another part of the floor, because they’re actually working, but the camera people want Whitney and her on-screen work friend to look like they have real desks.”

Us: “They make the people who really work there give up their desks in the middle of the day so The City can shoot?”

Girl: “Yeah. And when the scenes are done, Whitney leaves. She doesn’t really work there.”

At this point, we had a pretty shocked look on our face. Though looking back, we have no idea why…

Suprised...but not about the fake job part. Surprised people at DVF would move desks for the fake job to be filmed though. That blows. I would be thoroughly pissed.
Any interns at DVF know the real scoop?

These people from The Hills need to just cease existing.

I second that Fay, but people won't stop feeding into, and therefore we're all just living in a "Hills" world..

I guess in this economy the publicity for DVF is priceless. I'm not surprised at all, but would be super annoyed if my real job was interrupted so Whitney could have her fake job.

Agreed #2 and #5, I would have thought that DVF was above shamelessly pimping out her office, but I guess all publicity is good publicity but does DVF really target the tweens who watch the Hills? Sorry for the run on sentence.

If this is true, I feel disappointed that DVF would sink to this level. :( She's so much cooler than The Hills!

I worked at Bergdorf's while they were filming her pal's fake job scenes there, and the same thing happened there. They would come in, rearrange offices so that the non-employee could look important, film them at the store browsing the merch, then leave. SO idiotic.

I guess that I am not shocked, but I did think that Whitney actually did work, because they usually only show her working. Guess I was wrong.

Hate to say it, but duh. I was told the same thing from a friend that works for DVF weeks ago. Could you really expect anything more from MTV?

I can vouch for that one. A friend of mine who works at DVF was telling me about how the Hills production team had requested some of the DVF staff show up with and then wear 3 different changes of clothing, so it will look like whitney actually worked there 3 days in a row.

I'm not surprised, but if I was actually working there and trying to do my job I would be pretty annoyed if I had to give up my desk etc.

I'm surprised that this is surprising news to some people. Was there really any doubt that her job was fake? Well, at least this fake job is filmed in the real office. Getting closer...

Totally true. A friend of mine who has been working at dvf for about a year said that she'll be trying to get work done but will be asked from the mtv camera people to walk behind whitney like 5 times to shoot a scene. She said it is super annoying and super fake.

this is weird. i find it interesting that DVF would allow this big of a disruption in the office just to film a fake scene for the hills. i mean, i dont know if she really works there but to got hrough all of that just to film a scene, seems weird...

Duhhh, DVF do it for the publicity, asking employees to move desks for an hour for free publicity, equals more money for DVF. Its not rocket science.

DVF doing something fake... can't believe it. She's "married" to husband Barry Diller (who couldn't possibly be gay).

i went to FIDM at the same time as LC, and they did the same thing to us. they would have sections of our computer lab closed off so LC and her friends could sit there and do "homework." meanwhile, me and my friends had to bounce and do our homework somewhere else cause there were no more computers. LC only took one class a quarter and she was hardly there. the only time she had people around her was when the cameras were around. other than that she had no friends at FIDM. honestly, everyone in my school was embarrassed that she went there, lol.

YES!!! I totally agree with you . . I had LC in one of my classes and she was always by herself in class.. no one ever talked to her. In fact she wouldn't even pay attention to the class she seriously spend the whole time looking thru magazines like US weekly (probably looking for herself). The only time she had a conversation with one of my friends in class was when MTV asked her to do so, so they stuck a microphone on her. So sad and FAKE. The lab thing is so true also! That was super annoying!!

i knew it was b.s.

they showed a 'highlight' clip of whitney footage the other day on mtv, and included her 'interview' with teen vogue. well, suffice it to say, the footage was none too impressive. whitney could not name one fashion designer she admired, nor could she reference any noted fashion photogs- yet she still 'lands' the job b/c teen vogue 'saw something' in her?! right. i'm sure mtv had noooothing to do w/ that. her DVF interview left much to be desired as well, but again she was able to score a job thousands would give their right eye for despite her lack of knowledge and experience. the only logical explanation is that her position is complete and utter b.s. and only exists to generate publicity.

its just sad and predictable, but what can you do... i for one refuse to watch this tripe. not that anyone cares..

Well I knew it was fake, but I didn't realize that it was THIS FAKE. I mean really. Fake jobs, that seems pretty surreal to me. I'm sure her proper speach is fake too. I'm sure the MTV writters put that in there. Sorry for my spelling!

So you 30 or 40 people who work either in the fashion or television industry and comment on these fake work scenes think this makes one bit of difference to MTV or DVF when there are 16 million viewers who don't have a clue about the faked scenes? There is no economy out there, DVF has to do something to bring in money, and selling high-end clothes is not going to do it right now. Those annoyed co-workers should be grateful to be working, thanks in no small part to MTV choosing them as a set on which to film.

Real or not, there has never been a show like this on television that has had even remotely the same concept. We have been groomed to assume that this show is real because of the camera angles and the seemingly seamless dialgogue like many other "reality" shows out there. Its not Survivor or the real world, but its still tv. No matter what way you look at at it, MTV, just like any other network, is trying to get ratings and consequently sell advertising space. We, the viewer, have known for years that no matter what is on tv, it will always be altered in some way or another. Mtv just did a really good job at faking it and its not a bad thing, its just business.

No matter what, real or not, the hills and now, the city, have made an impact on girls. Whether it be on the way we braided our hair in the front, if we perfected our cateye eyeliner, or if we now had the confidence to rock motorcycle boots and girly dresses a la whitney port, The Hills/The City have made tv fun again :)
