Who’ll Be Famous in 2009?

gemma ward in the black balloon.jpgIn our second installment of year-end thinking, we ask you, which models do you think will be famous in 2009?

Britt’s picks:

Lara Stone: So maybe she’s been around for a bit, but she’s just now sort of everywhere. Is it weird that I hope Carine’s Loving-Lara issue puts her on Hollywood’s radar?

Gemma Ward: You probably think she’s famous already, but one more movie role and even my mom can add her to the list of current girls she knows - currently composed of just Stam and Agyness.

Natalie’s:

Arlenis: For the obvious reason of her becoming one of the new faces for Lancome and one of the VS girls, which means you won’t be able to click or turn a page without seeing her face very soon.

Lily Cole: Again, you might think she’s famous, but I think even my non-fashion friends will know Lily’s face once The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Phantasmagoria hit the big screen in the next year.

So, who’d we miss?

I'd LOVE to see much more Tanya Dziahileva. She's awesome, in person and on the catwalk.

Gemma has a lot of potential as an actress, she was great in Black Balloon...I think that put her on Hollywood's radar like other Aussie's before her.

If models didn't get paid thousands and thousands of bucks to pout, and have their picture taken in drool-worthy duds, I might feel bad for them. Unless a model starts a clothing/jewelery/perfume whatever line, they have a shelf life of 5 years (maximum). Also, to the Aggy reference I think most of us were over her about the time they started calling her the 'next Moss'. Moss is almost 35, yet over the years there have been a handful of Kate wannabees who are hyped up for a year or two, then start to fade away. The sad part is that fashion is so fast, it's hardly ever noticed where they fade away to.

dear fashionista-

i think you are owed some of the credit for pushing arlenis to superstardom by acting as her unofficial publicisit.

was it not you who posted many obsessive entries about the mystery Banana Republic runway model?

my hats off to you!

chanel iman. she's been around a few years, but now she's doing victoria's secret and has been appearing in bigger campaigns more frequently, so hopefully the non-fashion crowd will appreciate her too!
