“My resolution for 2009 is to project a healthy lifestyle for myself, of course, and for the people in my industry. I feel like it’s our responsibility to take care of the kids we are working with and let them know that if this isn’t the industry for them and they can’t be in it and still be healthy, then move on.” – Michelle Lee, KCD‘s casting director, in an interview on Supreme’s blog.

Could this be any more ironic? Supreme is known for having models with the tiniest measurements and little girl bodies (the added boob airbrushing in their show package was hilariously ridiculous). And does no one take into account that it’s next to impossible to be a healthy model in the high-fashion industry as 34-inch hips are extremely unnatural for a 6-foot-tall woman?! It’s disgusting. The designers ARE NOT projecting a healthy image whether the models they use are starving or not because they demand measurements and weights that ARE unhealthy and so they can’t project an image of health. It really disgusts me that anyone would even think this is a solution to the problem.

Couldn’t have said it better. Women/Supreme has a TERRIBLE history of pushing girls who are sickly thin. And no, they don’t just scout girls who are naturally thin. Pay attention to girls who defect to them and notice what happens to their bodies afterward.
Maybe with the economy in the toilet and customers paying more attention to the bottom line, we’ll see healthier looking girls working. They may be more commercial looking, less edgy, but at least they won’t look like holocaust camp refugees.

Nicely said on Michelle’s part. But yeah, I agree with the first two commenters about the extreme irony of having her interview run on Supreme’s blog (given how sickly a number of their models are).

It’s SO annoying how people can say one thing and do another. Are these fashion people lying to themselves? or just saying what they think the public wants to hear.
Supreme has beautiful girls, but more than just a few need to focus on getting healthy. Lee’s comment is nothing short of ironic, discouraging, and ridiculous.

The part that disturbs me is that shes saying if you aren’t naturally 5’11″ with the body of a 7 year old, get out. Sorry but thats going to leave a serious lack of models…I just can’t believe that instead of suggesting not all samples be 00, maybe they could be a 4? is that so crazy?
