AbFab Goes West!

patsy and edina absolutely fabulous.jpgIf you’re not familiar with Absolutely Fabulous, get thee to Amazon.com.

The British sitcom ran on and off from 1992 to 2005. It stars Patsy (Joanna Lumley) and Edina (Jennifer Saunders), a washed up model and a wannabe PR dame who spend almost the entire series drunk, stoned and decked out in the loudest Moschino and tightest maybe-Alaia they can find.

Patsy and Edina’s fashion obsession led to an insane roster of guest stars including Lacroix, Zandra Rhodes, Gaultier, Erin O’Connor, Twiggy and even Naomi Campbell.

So, we’re kind of jumping for joy that Fox confirmed they’ve picked up the re-make and will debut it later this year (Saunders, the original Edina, has signed on as Executive Producer). This means fashion, fashion, fashion on TV in the form of a killer costume department and hopefully some major guest stars.

Because while Victoria Beckham on TV is fun, a Patsy and Edina meet the Costello boys meet Jourdan Dunn would be life-changing.

UH HELLO! This is anything but good, unless they bring back the orginial cast and the fcc looks past some of the non-kosher things they did in the show then it will be amazing. But none the less look what happened to Kath and Kim they brought to America and it wasnt nearly as good as the original.

We can all only hope that the new abfab doesnt meet the same fate.

no no no! Unless it is on hbo or showtime i can't image how bad it will be! i'm guessing 30% pathetic comedy and 70% H20. Prepare to be watered down!

They can't redo the original. The censors on our domestic American tv won't allow even half of the drugs, sex, and other storylines. Nice try though.

They already did a remake in the US (god I'm old) It was called Cybill. And no, it wasn't anything like the wonderful AbFab, although I did adore Christine Baranski in it. (she was nominated for 2 emmys for that role)

Who could possibly play Eddie or Patsy?? Remakes are so wrong. The Kath & Kim remake is so off the original.

My worry is that no one will actually ever see the originals and know what quality and talent existed i.e. the UK's original The Office.

But the fashion will be what is to be seen...

Do you people ever think outside the box? Or do you just regurgitate what the big corporations want you to think? Could anyone actually be happy about this?

I don't understand why Americans insist on remaking British programmes, rather than just showing the original? I can't see any way this could be good, especially as AbFab was very much a product of its time. Even now the old episodes look SO dated (though still brilliant)
