agree with #18. Fashionista was my first fashion blog and first love but I think it’s time I take my business elsewhere. I’ve hung in there long enough ladies, and maybe some people will love this new direction the blogs going in, but I certainly don’t and clearly there are more who feel the same.

i’ve noticed that this site has started going downhill after faran left and the snarky comments have only increased. i still kept coming back PF (post faran) occasionally but i think this entry has turned me off of fashionsta for good.
i used to be a devoted reader but i couldn’t be more turned off by the elitism and snootiness this site has turned into.

Because she is lovable and charming and first lady that doesn’t mean she is style icon. I know we are dying for another Jackie, but lets face it- Michelle isn’t style icon and every comparison to jacky o is propaganda and populism By the way i am a big fan of M.O. and I think she’s going to be great first lady and fresh change but her fashion sense is so ordinary.
And the dress? It’s smart political decision to choose Jason Wu in sense of economic crises and I respect that, but come on people it’s a plain dress, nothing unique, nothing historical.

Haven’t you ever seen a dress that you just really loved, even though other people were kind of like, “uh, really?”, and you respect their opinions and all, but you just really liked the dress, and don’t they always say that true style is wearing what you love, and not worrying about what other people will think?

You guys can make all the snarky comments you want but she is on the March cover of Vogue and way more deserving than Blake Lively, IMHO. And she is a style icon for regular women everywhere who can’t afford the clothes that you fashion snobs drool over and who would rather dress a little more down to earth. Basically she is a regular person, not a model, who we can all relate to. And when you’re black, and there aren’t a lot of people who look like you, that can a breath of fresh air. So clammer all over Miss. Stam if you must, but honestly, who could even pick her out of a crowd of typical tall scrawny blonde girls? I will take Michelle and her dress, thank you. She is the first “First Lady” in a long time with an ounce of style. It could have been worse…it could have been Hilary.
PS I like Britt and Nat and their writing style. Sometimes I disagree with them. But I still love you guys. It would be boring if everything on this site was all yay and happy.

I’m with #41. I didn’t love the dress (although I think it wouldn’t be as easy as we all think to pick a dress that everyone – the people who read People and the people who read Paris Vogue – would like).

she could have wore some high end designer like oscar de la renta and snub the small end designers like wu. i think what she did should be looked at as a sign of how amazing the obamas are. i thought the dress was really nice…maybe not the MOST amazing piece from a fashion insiders point of you but she had to choose something that would satisfy fashion insiders and outsiders. i think picking wu was remarkable and all you guys can do is mock that you not only didn’t like it but that another mainstream designer knocked it off. i’m ashammed fashionista. you guys have gone WAY down hill lately. less posts and more importantly….. less quality.

YES! People who agree that Michelle’s outfits were awful! I reckon this dress was a little better than that snot coloured dress and jacket combination that she wore. I saw a dress that was designed for her my Armani and it was very impressive and then she chose how many dud outfits? Very disappointing. Considering what a big deal the inauguration is in the US (I’m from Australia) and how much coverage the event gets worldwide, AND keeping in mind how long people are going to be looking back at pictures of this day (which will be a LOT considering Obama’s your first black president), I’d have thought she’d wear something smart and most of all CLASSIC AND TIMELESS. She looked horrendous and she’ll probably be cringing at those photos in about a month.

The only reason you people like that dress is because Michelle Obama wore it, and everyone is only going psycho because she’s so like-able, so in turn the dress is like-able. But compared to so many other dresses MIchelle could have worn that were infinitely better in comparison (RODARTE ANYONE?!), this dress is simply, just plain average.
PS – Guest # 18 thinks she’s so smart and politically correct, but we all know the reason she’s pissed off is because she secretly thought she had an impeccable, heightened sense of style and absolutely adored that Jason Wu dress, until fashionista brought her crashing back down to reality..

Loved the post. Hated the dress.
And i totally agree with the population conrtol comment. People like us need to say no to things (michelles dress) or the media (who totally doesnt undestand fashion but thinks they do) will try to turn Michelle into something shes not.
