Adventures in Copyright: The RC Cola to Our Lip Balm

smiths rosebud salve has its own rc cola.jpgSmith’s Rosebud Salve - you know it, you love it, it’s everywhere.

Mostly because it’s perfect, it’s easy and it tastes good but also because of its unchanged and recognizable packaging.

So you’d think C.O. Bigelow, the apothecary slash beauty brand that’s been around since 1838 and already uses simple and pretty chic packaging would be able to conjure up something a bit more original for their own rose salve.

Sure they’ve sold it forever, too. But their relatively new red, white and blue tin is what we’d call too close for comfort - maybe they priced it $3 less due to their guilty conscience?

I love them both and I'm sure the C.O. can is pink. But if they were both made around th esame time it would explain why they look so alike. It's what was in then

sarahchivonne, I think your Smith's is the minted rose packaging (which is the same one that I own). The original is the blue tin.

FYI both are mainly Vaseline(AKA petroleum jelly) with rose juice, three dressed up as a nine. not that I don't have Smith's on the bedside table. but once it's done(another 2 years?) I'm filling the tin with Palmer's cocoa butter( the most pure I could find).chocolate for the outside of your body.yum.

i love the scent of smith's rosebud salve but it really doesn't do much in terms of moisturizing. petroleum jelly makes your lips feel nice for a little bit but then they just dry out again.
