Fall 2009 Paris

Alber Cuts Down Paris Fashion Week?

alber elbaz vogues.jpgThere have been a lot of sad faces over New York Fashion Week encroaching on London Fashion Week’s turf (now down to just a few days), and now, Paris Fashion Week may be cut a bit short, too, due to the cuts in everybody’s cash flow:

According to WWD, Alber Elbaz has moved his longstanding show date - the last day of Paris Fashion Week - up to the first day of the Paris week, showing right after Dior.

He says he wants to be “easier” on editors and buyers traveling on a more cost-cutting schedule this season, meaning, there must be a lot of editors planning on ditching Paris as soon as the really good shows are over.

Meaning? Fashion Week is disappearing bit by bit. But, you know, you already knew that.

I really love this site and I've been an avid reader for a really long time. But the pessimism isn't welcomed anymore when it comes to Fashion Week, the industry, etc.

We know it's bad, we know we're losing everything bit by bit, but maybe it's time to realize that people don't want to hear this. We know it's news, but maybe it's time for something a little more optimistic, Fashionista. Do what we've always loved you for, the funny, witty comments and the insider info and cute features. Not this "Fashion Week's dying, the industry is dying, this store is closing" news.

A little more upbeat would be amazing.

what are you talking about 'fashion week dying'? first of all, lanvin moved their show up b/c important editors like anna were leaving early and skipping the last day, thereby sending a strong message to the chambre syndicale about their schedule. paris is 8 DAYS LONG which is insane, and much too long, after the month editors have been through. if anything, this recession is healthy for the rtw shows from nyc through to paris because it will weed out the designers that don't need to show. particularly in nyc--of the 200+ designers on the fashion calendar, at least 30% shouldn't be there. the strong will survive, and that is exactly the shot in the arm that this industry needs. fashion weeks as we know them aren't going anywhere.

I'm so sick of all the pessimism everywhere. You turn on the TV and its on all the new chanel's.Yes these are tough economic times, but for the love of god, enough with jumping on debbie downer bandwagon, because its way blown out of porportion!!!!

This is fine, he just moved to showing on the first day, instead of the last, no biggie.

hi everyone. while i think it's great what alber is doing, it also sucks for two reasons:

1. many of us editors go backstage after dior to congratulate john and to say hello to his staff. now we all have to rush to lanvin.

2. even though lanvin has moved off the last day of paris FW, that still leaves louis vuitton AND miu miu showing on sunday night. what's more, both show AFTER when lanvin used to show...so it just means a bigger gap in the day. i'm not leaving any earlier and i don't think most editors are either with vuitton and miu miu on their schedules.

Just so everyone knows this recession is not going to last forever. It is only a temporary thing so keep your chin up. Fashion Week is not going to disappear just because of a slow season. yeesh!
