January 20th 2009: Barneys History Was Made

barneys window madison.jpgYesterday, Michelle Obama surprised everyone by stepping out for the inauguration in a yellow Isabel Toledo dress and coat.

And last night, history was made from it: Simon Doonan, a personal friend of Isabel’s, got so excited he tore down the normal Barneys windows on Madison and put up celebratory Isabel Toledo window installations instead.

Never before has Barneys done this, but most of all, we’re dying to see what Simon came up with on the fly.

So if you find yourself on Madison in front of Barneys, be a friend: Snap a picture, send it in (tips@Fashionista.com) - Funny poses encouraged.

that's so weird, i walked past barneys today and saw the windows, they said something like "Isabel Toledo hearts obama" . i thought that someone must of knew who she was wearing ahead of time because it was awfully quick for them to change their windows

Beautiful People is a GREAT 6 episode series that ran on BBC about a semi-fictionalized version of Doonan's childhood. its super!
