Dolce & Gabbana to Offend

dolce ad banned in spain.jpgFor those of you still hungry for more Spring 09 ad campaign news, get excited:

Dolce & Gabbana still has more ads to come out alongside their shots of Karlie, Caroline and Mariacarla, this time of men “on their knees praying.”

The Italian duo swears everyone will take it the wrong way and claim they’re offending religion, claiming that they’re actually promoting a “return to values.”

Either way, we’re sure this is a call for every reporter to get Dolce’s PR on speed dial - As a matter of fact, we haven’t really heard much about them in a while…

"offending religion", eh? Because if I were them I'd be less worried about Catholic sensibilities and more about their target female customer. That ad looks like a stylized gang rape waiting to happen.

Bluealvarez, I have to say that "stylized gang rape" is more likely to attract female customers than offend.

This is not 'subversive' this is totally trashy and glamourizes gang rape. I thought this kind of bullshit went out with heroine chic.

No woman I know would be attracted to this kind of crap-ass advertising(Commenter 3, you're totally out of touch if you think otherwise).
It's sad when a designer line has to resort to this to sell over-priced shit that no one needs.

Any ordinary woman who isn't some timid little mouse of a Mormon housewife has probably had fantasies about being in that situation. Looking like that while being surrounded by hot guys who want to sex you up? Yes, please. "Gang rape" is way too strong a phrase for this.

Should anyone be surprised.....that is the 'job' of advertisers today, especially as it relates to fashion.
Surprise!
Shock!
Inspire!

It's all rather dull.
Every since Salvador Dali plunged that bathtub through the window at Saks in the 40's, ad people have been trying to shock.

Where's Dali now? I'd rather see melting watches on the crotches of these models, any day.

Oh please, what woman doesn't dream of several handsome men waiting in line to be with her.
Not only guys fantasize about being with more than one women.

Wake up!

Umm...I personally do not fantasize about being held down while a group of guys watch, no matter how good I looked or how good they looked. He's holding her down and that makes it look like gang rape. I'm offended by this and I don't believe rape is ever glamorous or sexy.

I really don't see gang rape here. True it's highly sexualised but it's like a woman's super-extreme fantacy, which is what fashion is all about. There's nothin brutal here. It's all sex. If that's what you don't like, then we have an argument

I am with #15, what woman DOESN'T want to be surrounded by gorgeous men whie looking that fab and wearing those shoes? This ad is pure sex, and that is what D&G sells. They dont exactly market to the buttoned-up conservative type, theyre selling pointy stilettos that lace up your ankle, if you arent trying to sell yourself as sexy then this ad is not targeted at you anyway.
