Fashion Is Fun

Dreaming of Dior

We interrupt this cold and snowy day to bring you something that, depending on your mood, will make you smile or make you cry.

If you’re having a good day and there’s a trip to Paris with bicycles and macaroons in your near future, Sofia Coppola’s commercial will make you want to skip down the sidewalk.

But, if you’re having a bad day and the only thing you have to look forward to is next week’s Gossip Girl, this girl’s ridiculously perfect, ridiculously gorgeous life might put you over the edge.

No matter which side you fall on, please note the Vogue shout out mid-commercial. Do you think that’s paid product placement or Sofia’s suggestion that life can’t be perfect without a copy of Vogue on the vanity?

I've been seeing this commercial on for the longest and everytime I end up walking around for days singing "Moi je joue"! Colors are delicious. Especially love the balloons at the end because it reminds me of watching "Le ballon rouge" as a kid!

What a lovely commercial. Makes me want to go back to Paris this instant and stop in at Ladurée for some macarons* in rose, lemon, and who knows what other flavors. My biggest wish, actually, is to have Ladurée macarons as favors at my one-day wedding, but alas, I think they are too expensive.

*What she's got are macarons, not the similarly spelled macaroons.

Cutest commercial ever! I love it. And I love Maryna. It would make me want the fragrance if I didn't find the scent so atrocious.

I like that it's not over-sexed like every other perfume and scent commercial out there, where the acting is over the top and the picture is "airbrushed," (I don't know what to call the technique they use in videos to make everything look so plastic and shiny).

It's lighthearted and young. It really makes me jealous, so I guess I must be having a bad day.

Guest #22: It's a Dior ad, so as for the dress, go figure....

As much as I hate to shatter the illusion for you guys, I'm from Paris and life is just like it is in any other major city: mostly hard work. Every Parisien that I know is miserable as it's simply a case of métro-boulot-dodo (or subway-work-sleep, as the old poem goes). It's just that when we're not preoccupied with those things, we have better food and scenery than you!

*hehe* ^^

About the "scenary" I agree with you...but about the food, well...Italian food is better!!! :) But I follow your speech, you're right, we all tend to idealize places far from our realities and portraited by tons of movies and novels as "wonderful, unbelievable, amazing, dazing and confusing" (ihih). But reality often is different. I'm also used to "shatter the illusion" of people on web who celebrate Italy and the italian style in adorating ways...the "italian mith" is just so overrated...

Even though I lived in Paris for 8 months last year (studying abroad), and do not intend on going back anytime soon, I can still appreciate the lightheartedness and frivolity of this commercial. Paris is not the dream fairy-tale city most people make out it to be, but this commercial sure makes it look that way!

But Maryna does NOT look like your typical French girl in this ad because:
-French girls do not smile and skip down the street. They scowl and smoke cigarettes.
-They do not gorge on pastries. How do you think they stay so skinny?
-A girl who can afford gowns from Dior would NOT be riding a bike around the city. She would have a chauffer or drive her own car. (Or at least a scooter.)

as #21 mentioned this commercial is so beatiful because it does not look at all like, let´s say gisselle for d&g (so tacky). don´t you think that it is kind of ironic that they have such a beatiful piece of advertising for such a bad smelling perfume?

guests #24 and #25 lighten up please!! if you don´t like the idea of paris think of the place you find most charming and beatiful in the world. of course it never is the place where you live in. to me paris was just everything i saw here

I cannot stand racist, homophobic Brigitte Bardot. Otherwise, the commercial is cute.

This is why I love London. Everyone knows what they are getting and are under no illusion as to what it's like. And yet it still rocks! xx
