Gossip Girl Spinoff to Bring 80’s Fashion

lily bass gets a candle.jpgOh. My. God.

Much like Star Wars, Gossip Girl is getting its own prequel series, revolving around the buried romance between Lily Bass and Rufus Humphrey, which will be introduced to Gossip Girl viewers via flashbacks during the May 11th episode.

Yes, the Lily/Rufus thing is a total yawn, but since the separate series is supposed to take place in 80’s LA, expect Eric Daman to go buck wild with the costumes, especially since Lily goes from the high (a rich, Montecito boarding school kid) to the low (a public school in the Valley) in just a couple episodes.

We’re not sure we can condone such a thick layer of soap slabbed onto a getting-questionable program, but there’s nothing we can do to stop it, so let’s just enjoy the clothes -

Lily’s first outfit: Something like this?

I like the Lily/Rufus plot. It adds another dimension to the show. But I am not sure about a prequel and all the 80s fashion.

I'm all for a spin-off but not on this plotline... it'll leats a season at best. But I hope it turns out well.

ok the writers for this show (who also did the oc i believe) need to understand that THERE IS NO BOARDING SCHOOL IN MONTECITO. There just isn't.

Remember when Marissa got kicked out of Harbor and had to go to Newport Union (oh the horrors of public school)?
I think this could be good if we get to skip the "budding romance" part and have a show full of their exploits while Rufus was on the road being a grunge rocker. It sounds like Lilly got around with a few rockers back then and was an amazing photographer. AND the soundtrack would be amazing.. what an opportunity for all the 90's acts to cameo. I vote Jane's Addiction,Sonic Youth and the Pixies on the first show.
Here's to more of a 90's grunge show than an 80's love story.

I'm going to miss Gossip Girl, however this sounds really good. I like the Lily plot and especially in the 80's ! I don't know why ever everyone thinks the 80's are horrible.

I love the 80s.
The plot is irrelevant if there are clothes involved!

@ 11: i don't think there is an actual boarding school in montecito, either, but remember, it's just a TV show!

they filmed the beach scenes for the OC not in orange county, but in LA county beaches like redondo and zuma. and constance billard isn't a real school either, although it's supposed to be based on an actual one.

however, i think there is some kind of foreign language institute in montecito.
