michelle obama in yellow isabel toledo.jpg

Right now, Michelle Obama is starting the inauguration day in a yellow, Isabel Toledo outfit.

Is this the first glimmer of Isabel Toledo’s name ringing across the nation, all the way to a Target near you? We shall see.
On a side note, will anyone else be incredibly disappointed if Michelle opts for the very First Lady-ish Oscar de la Renta tonight?

wow, guys. really classy. way to bash one of the most important women of our day with no real cause. a woman, by the way, who has shown nothing but class and who will probably play a significant role in the fashion world as well.

Bitter girls! Probably just jealous because their lives will never be as important as Ms. Obama's and will never amount to anything meaningful. Stop bashing people's outfits and go do something to better the world, loser hags.

I am an avid fashion lover but could we please stop treating the incoming first lady like she's Jackie O or JLO? The media hype and predictions on what the inaugural gown will look like, what hairstyle she will don, what designers she will engage for public appearances make me want to shoot myself. I am more interested in what Mrs O plans to do with her newfound role - than what designers she will annoint as the next "big thing"

I have to agree that the tights are a little much. The Obama's are not the Kennedy's and the Kennedy's are not the Obama's. I don't see the point in comparing the two. They will both lead different administrations, and instead of putting all these preconceived notions on the Obama family, just let them act their OWN role.

Guest 11: Exactly. First Lady fashion is in a league of its own. Michelle will have nice designers...every first lady does. I wouldn't claim her to be an up and coming fashion guru. She looks lovely...she looks like a First Lady.

Whatever your opinion on Mrs. O's style may be, everyone must agree she's a huge step up from former first ladies Laura Bush and Hilary Clinton. I think she's a wonderful role model for young girls with her power, intelligence, and beautiful - yet realistic - figure. And she does it all with style and class!

I swear I just read in a recent article on how Michelle hates hosiery??? correct me if I'm wrong...Nonetheless I think she looks amazingly classy, the monochromatic mixing of the shades of green. I love the gloves, she does Isabel Toledo well...I'm sure, now we will here a lot more than usual from the designer

No you're right GQDetails. However, given the temperatures in D.C. right now, she may not have much of a choice. I don't love her ensemble in pictures but it looks gorgeous on TV. The color and sparkle are great with her skin tone. I can't wait for tonight ball photos!

She looks great and like a first lady, mother of two children should look like.

Actually,it's eleven degrees out and she looks lovely for a first lady. I think the time has gone where all a First Lady is supposed to do is look pretty and stand next to her husband. She has brains, attitude, and personality, and she attires herself well for the job description.

Michelle Obama is a brilliant woman with a prestigious education and experience and is positioned to do a lot of good in this country and people are giving her flack for wearing tights when its 11 degrees out? Today is not about her, it is about America, and I think she looked gorgeous but allowed her husband to really shine. That is the role of First Lady, n'est pas?

I'd like to see more leg tho.

She's not wearing white nylons or tights. Pleae use common sense. She's wearing coffee/sheer brown pantyhose, that are unfortunately reflecting the daylight. Manufacturer's still haven't come up with a decent near skin color hose for african american women, so we have to work with what's available. And bare legs are not an option for formal events.

It is always funny to me when people comment on subjects they know nothing about. Since when is the color of her stockings considered white? Check your rainbow folks and give Michelle some credit. Nude stockings for women of color almost always have a disgusting pasty color to them.

Michelle Obama will always look like a first lady should, but we cannot expect her to break any first lady fashion molds. She wont. She might wear somewhat unknown designers like Isabel Toledo, and those designers will become more recognized throughout the nation, but not through any merit of thiers or hers.

She looks amazing, the colour in beautiful on her, the greyish greenish gloves with it were awesome. This is a formal state event, tights are necessary, plus it is freezing out and she had to sit still outside for a very long time. Her option for tights was much better than Biden's wife's weird choice of knee high black stiletto boots. wtf?
And I really have higher hopes for Michelle than wearing Oscar de la Renta, but if she does I'm sure she'll rock it better than Hilary.

Thank you 29 and 33. I'd also like to add that it's extremely cold out. On the campaign trail I always saw her in bare legs.

Isabel Toledo has been around for a while and not gotten the recognition she deserves. Michelle is an excellent model for a designer who has great attention to detail, strong work ethic, unique style and a talented, adoring husband to boot.

I may not enjoy all of her choices, but they're all distinctively her. I love that we finally have a first lady who has a distinctive style.

I want her to be Michelle Obama. She is incredible, dynamic, and so intelligent. Does it occur to you what she is doing for American fashion? Do you really want your First Lady to wear Valentino right now? Seriously, people.

I do not like what she is wearing. The same style Mrs. Bush wears. The Narciso dress was better for her body. I will be disappointed if she wears Oscar. Yes he does great gowns but something different. Maybe Mizrahi.

We all understand that it's freezing up there. No one disagrees with that. Maybe it was just an unfortunate picture choice, because the hose do look awkward in this shot. She looked great on TV and I think Mrs. Biden did too. I just hope that the presidential closets don't get in the way of people's opinions on presidential policies/humanitarian efforts.
