Sass & Bide Drops Out of Fashion Week

sass and bide girls.jpgLast year, Sass & Bide dropped out of New York Spring 09 Fashion Week to focus on new projects.

They fully intended on returning to Bryant Park’s tents with their Fall 09 collection next month, but now they’re dropping out again, this time due to designer Sarah Jane Clarke’s third pregnancy.

Maybe pregnancy, maybe economy, maybe they’re tired of leading the shrinking Australian fashion pack?

Can’t they just throw their clothes on a plane and trust a stylist to make the runway look awesome?

We can feel Fashion Week slipping through our fingers - and we don’t like it.

as much as I love going to FW, I wonder what the true value would be to the designer after factoring the exhorbitant costs. does it really garner them more press and more sales? and if maybe the designers spent less on FW and marketing the price of the clothes would go down as well.

Australian fashion is not shrinking and sass and bide is hardly leading it... Sass and bide is what every girl in Australia is wearing and walking around in, it is common but it doesnt signify all the higher fashion and amazing designers that are continuing to emerge.

Honestly if Fashion Week was just held somewhere other than NYC, then maybe people could afford to stay in it.

Rather than shrinking, Australian fashion is actually going better than I've ever seen it. There are heaps of amazing upcoming designers (Akira is spectacular!), and as #6 noted, sass and bide was never leading Australian fashion.

New York can get off their high horse. Number 1 has summed it up. You've only got yourself to blame. Hopefully this is the start of a new stream of fashion-the whole fashion week thing is so unoriginal!

The fact that australian labels are not participating in FW is because they have finally realized that it is a press effort more than sales. Also with the fall of the AUD who can afford spending all that money just to attend a fashion show? their fashion is so fashion forward that the global urban crowd picks up on it anyways. People who wear sass and bide, ksubi, chronicles of never, etc, will always find it, its more of a demand pulls supply market, people ask for it, store buyers go find them.... thats how desired their are.
