Fashion Is Fun

T By Alexander Wang, In Words

karlie kloss models t by alexander wang on nitrolicious.jpgToday, the good people over at Nitrolicious put up the lookbook from Alex Wang’s first diffusion line, T by Alexander Wang. As usual, we talked.

Natalie: Oh, did you see this?

Britt: Yes. I want it all.

Natalie: Me, too. But don’t you think this is all very James Perse-y?

Britt: Yes, boring and perfect. I love it. I just hope the price points are James Perse-y.

Natalie: Maybe - right now they only have the wholesale prices up. But anyway, aren’t you surprised they used Karlie for the lookbook? I would have thought Erin, or even Alice.

Britt: They did manage to make Karlie look incredibly Erin-esque.

Natalie: Do you think the underwear’s part of the line?

Britt: I hope so.

no way, its so much cooler then boring old james perse. James perse is basically like banana republic which is basically old navy.

I think this is my favorite Karlie moment ever.

Oh, and I need the black halter dress and racerback tank/dress. Need.

I don't think I'm old enough to consider "boring and perfect" desirable.

Alexander Wang is about as original and important as Vera Wang . Boring, overated
dullness. Are people so hungry to be fleeced. Go to KMart and get the same stuff. It's better made and costs less.

I would definitely wear some of this to class because it's perfect for the super casual-ness of hawaii. but alas, it is probably way too expensive.

seriously, i can't believe the hype around this kid. some of those are pretty cool and innovative...i'd say about two of the styles might be worth what they cost. the rest of it you can get at american apparel, or, better yet, any thrift store ever or even a drug store for less than a third of the cost. one of the pictures is literally karlie kloss in a wife beater and underwear. and you are ready to pay $80? you like it because he is over-hyped hot shit, well-styled and put on a good model. why don't you give the attention to someone like threeasfour who make AMAZINGLY comfy jersey tops that are lightyears more innovative and worthy than this shit?

because awang knows how a cool girl wants to dress/look. Threeasfour aint nothing but a bunch of circus freaks who live together in an artist commune throwing together clothes based off their drug relapse

Can you not work out the retail prices from the wholesale prices fashionista? The mark-up is quite standard across the industry that you are trying to cover.

Might be time for a fashion or journalism or fashion journalism crash course at Fashionista towers? There seems to have been a lot of mistakes, ignorance and sloppy stories recently.

hi guest #15, thanks for your concern. but in fact, markup is not standard, it can be anywhere from 50% to 80%, which is why items can be a totally different price from one store to the next. we didn't want to just assume the markup then lead everyone in the wrong direction, which actually would be pretty sloppy, no? but since you're so interested, why don't you research it yourself? here, we'll help: saks just put some of the pieces up for pre-order on their site. enjoy!

Ah yes, research it myself! That's why I read fashion news, so I can then go out and double check and research everything myself. I must check where WWD and Vogue say that to their readers.

Only one thing that I bought from American Apparel fit me even remotely correctly, and the fabric there is scratchy. So I don't think "just getting it at American Apparel" will be the same thing. There IS a difference, and it's not just the label!

i think reader #15 (#17) has a valid point.
fashionista should stop bullying readers who bring up what fashionista could improve on.

#4 and #5 Thank you so much for finally saying it! People are so crazy for AA but the staff is always SO rude and usually dressed like they fell out of a bad 80's music video. For plain old teeshirts, Target's little boy's section $3 tees fit the bill just fine.

I like the clothing itself, the underwear not so much. I'll probably end up checking this out, but I usually get my basic tees from the guys undershirt section at Target.

Err, $75 for RAYON? Abomination. And some of those tees look a lot like erin for rvca tees. I'm not saying he copied them, obviously, but originality is missing on both ends.

Thanks 20! 18: grow up, we're not in some movie with Lil' Kim.

My reason for my post wasn't to find out the retail prices for this stuff but to point out that Fashionista at the moment could be improved as it's recently been filled with half-stories, errors and ignorance of pretty basic fashion industry stuff (like mark-ups or ads in magazines) or journalism skills (like confirming sources, checking stories before publishing them or providing readers with as much info as possible).

If you want some examples check out: the most recent story about D&G, the story about Purple mag, this Alexander Wang story, Men's Vogue, Adventures in Copyright that are anything but (LV vs. Barnes and Noble, Hermes vs. Temperley), etc. etc.

Anyway, thanks for the link to Nitrolicious in the story, I'm giving them my clicks from now on, seeing as how I've been served and all.
