The Bow Hat and Madonna Have Something in Common

aretha franklin and her bow hat from inauguration.jpgIf you’ve been in front of a computer over the last 20 hours or so, then you probably know that everybody under the sun wants to know where in the world Aretha Franklin found that huge bow hat she wore to sing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” at the Presidential Inauguration.

So here’s the scoop, via WWD: The hat’s from Detroit-based milliner Luke Song, and retails for $179.

Luke Song wholesales in New York, California, “throughout the South” and online under the label Mr. Song Millinery.

We especially love how on-trend Aretha was with that massive hat, and yet totally as she’s always been (as Britt put it: “I can’t wait to be old and wear crazy hats”) - So will everyone else play catch up? We’ll see.

I agree! I thought the hat was gorgeous and made a statement, and she wore it confidently.

It's funny, cause I saw her on Barneys first floor a few weeks ago (along with 3 massive bodyguards), and she bought 3 hats and had them sent. I was wondering if she got that one at Barneys!

I thought the hat was fantastic. Very few people can pull that kind of piece off but she definitely did.

My boyfriend used to live down the street from Mr. Song's in Detroit. It is really fun to go in and try on all the hats. If you want some serious hat action, go to Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit, which used to be located behind by boyfriend's building but is now up the freeway a bit, and just peek in one Sunday morning. You will be amazed.

#5 was right on. what was so great about the hat, especiallyu in relation to this inaugeral, was the hat was sooo "sunday's best" at any black church, yet I feel she made it current and age appropriate as well.
