Models

One of These Is Not Like The Others

i wanna be a supermodel.jpgWe went to tap off Taxi TV this morning when we saw Cindy Crawford walking down a runway and were like, “Whoa.”

And then we watched her entire Raymour and Flanigan furniture commercial. She talked about how fashion used to be her life but now function’s more important and while she’ll always have a place in her heart for the industry that made her super famous, she’s way more concerned with furniture design these days.

And then we started thinking about how Cindy Crawford’s kind of always been around and her face has been in like every single commercial/ad since she stopped landing Vogue covers. Which made us wonder, if she’d just disappeared for a bit, could she be hawking things like Prada and DSquared and Chanel instead of denim-covered couches?

Cindy’s arguably the richest, best known name of the supers, but she’s also the only one seriously lacking high fashion cred - we’ll take a moment to acknowledge her amazing November 08 French Vogue spread, but just because Carine missed her doesn’t mean designers are going to write a huge paycheck to put their clothes on her when she’s the face of a million products - and we wonder if that bothers her.

If you were a super, would you rather be a Cindy or a Linda?

They're both so different. Cindy has always seemed a bit... different than the other supers (along with Christy, maybe.) She was more apple pie than caviar. On the one hand, you have a very familiar face, doing very well and involved in what she loves. On the other hand, a high fashion career that has spanned decades.

I'd pick Cindy's. She's graduated from modeling and used it as a platform, whereas I see Linda, Naomi and a few others as the HS jocks who maybe relive their glory days. It's not a bad thing, when it comes to modeling (the prestige, the money, all good) but it must be difficult competing with girls 5, 10 years younger, or even half your age.

though both are drop dead gorgeous, im gonna have to go with Linda, she has more of a high fashion aura surrounding her and i love the mysterious aspect to her as opposed to cindy who is a little too main stream for me, but i love her none the less.

I'd doubt she has any regrets, mass market advertising and licensing deals pay a lot more than ad campaigns (no matter how high end)because the budgets are much bigger! She has always seemed very much a bottom-line sort of gal. That became very apparent when she started plugging Blackglama fur after being a PETA spokesperson. I mean, whether you like PETA or hate them, you have to admit that's quite the turnaround!

if cindy came back she would outshine any current top model and any super from the 90's.

let us all not forget the hype she caused when she walked for cavalli in 2003. Cindy, its time to give Donatella a call and return to the super that you are!!!!!

As a Canadian, I'm loyal to Linda.
But Cindy's beautiful in a more accessible way.Maybe that's why she doesn't always fit that 'high' fashion mold.
It's a little like comparing apples to oranges, both have their great qualities.

Linda has always amazed me. Cindy is beautiful but Linda seems more glamorous.

Linda without a doubt.
Linda is mysterious. Cindy is so beautiful but aspirational in an entirely different way.

Most certainly Linda, because she has a bigger range, and body of work.

Either! Both are rich and beautiful. Does pride even figure in to the equation? Who cares.

I'm all about the Turlington!
In person Christy is just exquisite, whereas Cindy looks like that REALLY pretty girl that lives on your street.

that's an unanswerable question. Look at Kathy Ireland. If you think Cindy has no high-fashion cred, KI has even less. But whereas she has made a ton of money and established herself as a savvy businesswoman, where is someone like Josie Borain who modeled about the same time as her, was the Calvin Klein girl and had tons of high fashion cred? Or Tanga Moreau who was the darling of the fashionista crowd but just didn't like fashion and left to pursue a simpler life away from fashion all together?

I'm sure Linda E has no regrets about the choices she made, and neither does Cindy. And neither path can be faulted.

Cindy, for sure. she's way cleverer and fyi, I'm still doing those Cindy workouts (um...occasionally). Agree Turlington beats them all and oh, Tanga, I'd forgotten all about her!!
