Fall 2009 New York

DKNY Cuts Their List, Too

dkny spring 09 opening look.jpgFollowing in the footsteps of Marc Jacobs, DKNY has had to significantly cut down their guest list for next week as well.

Instead of switching to a presentation, as previously reported, DKNY’s decided to keep with a traditional runway show - But with a guest list of 400 instead of the usual 1,000.

We wonder if Vlada’s walk down the runway will suffice as the Fall 09 campaign, too, a la Donna Karan Spring 09.

Either way, who else is cutting down their show in the next week?

Like a lot of the 'job cuts' searing through the U.S......I think this is a jump-on-the-bandwagon cut.

What happens in NYC when you make something exclusive? The jockeying for position creates the most passionate sport the "IMPORTANISTA" relishes: The "CUT THE LINE" cut. It's desperate velvet rope PR.

Now that I've gotten past the insomnia, I will say Donna Karan has always been a designer with a social conscience, what exactly that means I can't begin to explain , but she's got a good spirit. To cut down the guest list is fiscally responsible, cutting costs for even a huge ,wealthy company is smart, but you have to look at the positive fall out from these sorts of choices. It makes the brand, one which people scramble to see at the tents even more desireable. Hence, ROW RAGE. Who makes the cut and who gets to watch it on Style.com? There is a madness at play, but methodical nonetheless.
