Fact: Dasha in at POP

Friday, Feb 27, 2009 / 9:04 AM

dasha zhukova head tilts like a starlet.jpgRumors over the last week have just been confirmed by the Guardian: Dasha Zhukova, the designer behind Kova & T (also well-known as the girlfriend of Roman Abramovich, the billionaire who owns the Chelsea Football Club) is the new editor-in-chief of POP.
The first issue of the new POP hits newsstands September 1st, an ambitious date considering Bauer Media’s had to hire a freelance team to replace the masthead Katie took with her to LOVE.
Bauer’s also established an editorial board to “provide guidance and inspiration”, a team that includes Daphne Guinness and Julia Restoin-Roitfield.
This job will be Dasha’s very first in magazine editorial.

This is just outrageous. She doesnt have any fashion credential nor experience in glossy business. Pure example of power of money and connection over talent!

LAUGHING OUT LOUD

Her dad and boyfriend will fund the dying magazine… What does she know about fashion?

What really did Katie Grand know before sleeping her way in and up. Seems like she’s already done that.

She always looks awkward in all those expensive cloth she wears. Sure, shes pretty girl but looks very old for her age and doesnt have any cool/edge vibe at all. Cant imagine someone as bland as her editing used to be the coolest magazine…

showing once again that fashion is an industry built on connection, money, and loads of skinny trust fund babies.

the fact that she doesn’t have that much experience is tricky….it can be really bad or really awesome….
but I hear the Magic words…Daphne Guinnes

Dasha!!! Maybe it because I think Katie Grand does the obvious(faux-rebellion) but I think POP will be better now.

Her other incarnation is as an ‘art collector’ – i.e spending vast sums of her billionaire husband’s money on shitty modern art she doesn’t understand, to impress the Moscow new-money elite.
I read an interview with her last year promoting the art museum she’s opening in Moscow and when asked which artists she liked she couldn’t name a SINGLE one, claiming to be bad at remembering names!
This is the standard we can look forwards to at POP now.

Roman Abramovich did the right thing in buying and using the best players in the Chelsea team. The last couple of years have been really good for Chelsea because Roman steps aside and let the right people manage the game. Dasha should take cue from him. I don’t agree that Daphne Guiness is the byword for taste like guest 7 said (perhaps in couture) since managing a magazine is a different ball game altogether…hopefully POP will not *pop*. Good luck to them.

Who’d have guessed…
so you “design” some shiny leggings and now you’re worthy of POP? How pathetic.
