Is Pixie to Vogue Italia What Blake is to Vogue?

pixie gelof on cover of italian vogue small.jpgWhen we told you that Blake Lively would be Vogue’s February cover girl, most people flipped out and claimed that this was just the worst of many recent examples of the economy informing the magazine’s cover choices (as in, going more mainstream to up those single copy newsstand sale numbers).

A lot of fans bemoaned the death of Vogue and advised that critics would be happier reading Vogue Italia or Vogue Paris because neither would ever do such a thing.

But now it’s come out that Pixie Geldof, sister to Peaches and poser for Agent Provocateur and Pringle of Scotland, is on the February cover of the beloved Vogue Italia, and appears inside the issue in a 14-page spread with fellow spawn of fame, Daisy Lowe.

So does that mean that the recession has finally hit Vogue Italia, too, and they desperately needed to get some press to follow up the madness of last July? Or was Steven Meisel really so taken with the socialite that he convinced EIC Franca Sozzani to agree in a very public way?

We’ll probably never know, but you can guess which side we’re on.

I'm having mixed feelings about this. I love Pixie a lot and I'm proud of her for landing this cover, but I think there are dozens of models who deserve it more than her. I'm still super proud of her, but it's just a bit wrong.

Pixie is to Vogue Italia what Blake (Fielder-Civil) is to Amy Winehouse!

This makes me sick, first of all why is she famous? For having fucked up infamous parents? For partying? Really? Is that all it takes to get opportunities some models would kill for because it would actually change the course of their career?!

Lively is 1000000 better choice since she didnt come to be because of nepotism, so Fahsionista you can suck it, of course you would be kissing her ass, so predictable!!!

is it just me or is it only a selected number of people who know who this chick is? true, most will know she's some sort of socialite but I don't think this will boost sales in the same way boobs (oops I mean Blake) lively will for american vogue...

Well, in response to comment 5, I'm not crazy about this either but Blake Lively has had her fair share of nepotism. Her parents, her brothers and sisters, her whole family is immersed in the entertainment industry.

in response to comment 7, i'm guessing you are north american which would explain your blissful ignorance of the yates/geldof spawn.

pixie geldof (birth name: little pixie geldof) has two sisters: peaches honeyblossom and fifi trixbelle as well as a half sister heavenly hiraani tiger lily hutchence geldof. (hutchence, as in michael hutchence of inxs.)

the girls all moved in with geldof after the "accidental" deaths of michael in the nineties and then paula in the noughties.

all are beloved by british redtops (tabloids) for putting the fun(ky) in dysfunctional. none have worked a real job - ever - and without a doubt none of them ever will.

i'm so sorry to have burdened you with this. with any luck, their relative anonymity in the states will continue for many years to come.

Michelle Obama got the March Vogue cover. The Washington Post is reporting with details. She is wearing Jason Wu on the cover. He is having quite the year.

well, nobody in italy knows her, that's for sure. thus said, i had the "pleasure" to meet this girl and she is one of the most unpleasant people I have ever met. I don't think it's a choice that goes well with the whole Vogue Italia's concept of not being at the celebs'feet and just there to please an audience (they do plenty of that with design houses and ads), but I'm waiting to get my copy before I judge, maybe the accompanying interview (if there's any) will shed some light on this poor choice...
