WHICH group of fashion show go-ers rolled up to Louise Goldin an hour after the show had finished? They just couldn’t understand how she dare put her models on the runway without their particular presence.

I’m going to say Peaches Geldof + her scabby entourage would be obtuse and deluded enough to act in such a manner. If someone knows for certain, please enlighten us.

nah, I doubt it was Kanye: he respects fashion too much. If he did show up late to a show, he wouldn’t be shocked that they started w/o him.

#4, were you in london? kanye had mandi lennard on the phone, expecting pam hogg to be held up for him (mandi declined). he also pulled some really shitty stunts in new york, like at phillip lim, and his entrance at christopher kane was beyond ridic. he has no respect. that’s why everyone is fed up with his unnecessary presence. it’s just a big joke for him, but he doesn’t realize that he just looks like the joke (to everyone but the poor pr people that have to accommodate him).

Kanye West involved in fashion is like when someone tries to buy taste or friends. It’s just wrong and sticks out like a sore thumb.

It was Kanye and his mangey entoruage + bald GF
I read somewhere else that Louise Goldin refused to hold up her show for him, and I felt so cheered.. she deserves some kind of medal, and let’s just hope the big Paris and Milan designers take note in the upcoming weeks..
Kanye has no reason to be at the shows and he has no respect. He’s fashion’s no 1 douchebag at the moment, whatever his fans claim to the contrary.

Kanye has every reason to be at the shows. At first, he was promoting his line of sneakers for Louis Vuitton. He wants fashion press and he’s getting it. He also plans to have a design house after he’s too old for music. This is him positioning himself as a player in the industry. And, unlike most people at the moment, he can actually afford what’s on offer.
The designers need him because he gets them a new kind of press. The press is tired of rich socialites and the usual female celebs. He’s a curiosity factor not unlike Sean Avery–a straight and fashionable male who has no problem hanging out in what to many is considered the purview of women and gay men. He has young fans to whom he will introduce heretofore obscure designers. He makes fashion exciting to a certain part of the public (not you, but not everything is for you). This is all the more important when the economy has everyone depressed and not spending.
I’m sure he can be a pain in the ass. But our lookie-loo opinions sadly don’t keep young designers solvent, so he’ll have to do until you step up to the plate.

9, your arguments are flawed-
The fact that he wants fashion press isn’t a reason for why he *needs* to go to every show. I want fashion press but that doesn’t mean I should be allowed to attend every show.
Everyone else who wants to start a design house and position themselves within the industry tend to do so without being able to barge into every big runway show just because of their celebrity status.. again no good reason for why he should be at the shows.
Being able to afford the clothes is no justification for why he should be at the shows. If everyone who could afford the clothes should be at the shows the shows would be huge.
Kanye doesn’t generate good PR for brands much any more because he goes to every single show.. Non-fashion media isn’t going to bother reporting on it if it’s the same story every day (Kanye goes to yet another show – and is rude towards people who actually work in the industry – again!)
Making out that he’s some sort of hero for going where only “women and gay men” operate (which isn’t entirely true anyway) is a pretty spurious justification for his presence. Jefferson Hack is a straight fashionable man whose presence at the shows is justified because he founded and edits one of the biggest fashion magazines, not because he’s a celebrity whose music career is ending.
He can make fashion seem exciting to his fans by dressing well, and maybe going to the occasional show (say LV, given he ‘works’ for them) – again no justification for why he should be at every show
FINALLY (phew – but it all had to be said) I very much doubt Kanye West helps to promote designers, except perhaps Louis Vuitton. Are Kanye fans really going to start wearing Christopher Kane because he barged into the show late? If it was proven that he provided valuable promotion for designers it might help to excuse his unwanted presence at the shows, but it certainly wouldn’t justify it.

I agree with #9…Some of these designers will never have the mass following of the likes of Chanel, Dolce, etc. simply because their brand just isn’t as well known.
Having Kanye disrupt your show, or insist on being there probably is a good thing for you.
No offense, but many designers are going under, and Kanye might be just the guy to lead teenage pocket money to them.
His presence is probably unwanted because the usual crowd feels threatened. Their pull on the fashion world just isn’t as strong as years past.
He shouldn’t have been late, but don’t get angry. That’s great press for Goldin.

yeah, why no one listen to guest 12 and just keep talking about Kanye? Whether you like him or not, you gotta give it to him, everyone is talking about him!!!! Cant we instead talk about real industry people?

i totally agree with #10, but at least he’s (trying) to attend the shows instead of just using his fame and fortune to start yet another ridiculous celebrity clothing line or perfume with absolutely no credentials whatsoever. though some might argue that his attending the shows is in the same category.

Kanye’s got a lot to learn, but the man’s got heart. He just needs a fashion mentor. I still love ya man!

I’m not sure Kanye’s teen demographic has deep enough pockets for Christopher Kane. Unless of course, they’re selling his designs on Canal.
