Fall 2009 New York

Marc Jacobs Show Downsized

marc jacobs spring 09 opening look.jpgBecause so many publications are cutting back on sending editors overseas to Fashion Week, plenty of people thought attendance at the shows would still be great because people who just couldn’t make the list last time would get bumped up, and all the seats at the shows would remain filled, but maybe with slightly different people.

But not so for the Marc Jacobs show, where the normal guest list of 2,000 has been cut down to just 700.

In fact, according to Robert Duffy, there will only be “one or two celebrities” (the Marc show usually attracts a front row that reads like a Golden Globes nominees list) and no entourages (guess that cancels out JLo).

The first of the Marc Fall 09 cut backs was the cancellation of the after-party, mourned by many but totally understood.

But cutting back on the show’s set, too? We just hope all the saved money’s going towards the clothes.

I definietly dont belive Duffy when he says there will be "one or two celebrities".Marc Jacobs shows (recession or not) are all about getting as much publicity as you can.

Anyway i just want a good show, and perhaps Victoria Beckham to make things interesting, and to have something to gossip about before the show starts,ha!

This is weird - the show is in the same venue as the last few seasons. Are they saving money by not putting up as many bleachers?

If you aren't downsizing the venue, why are they downsizing the guest list? If the invites are the issue, save money by sending evites. Lord knows I've gotten a ton this season.

I'm so happy the celebs will not be there. I get the friends of the house, but the random ones that I have never seen in MJ or have an aesthetic even remotely near his drove me crazy.

Having read the WWD story I'm glad that Duffy admitted to cutting the shows to keep jobs and that he didn't feel the need to entertain the world. Times are changing and the culture is changing. Hopefully, it's a great show.

It doesn't really bother me if celebrities are front row, just so long as KANYE WEST isn't.. because HE is a douche (PS did you see that picture of him and his cronies acting like tourists when they got their photo taken with KARL - thankgod they realize they don't belong)
