Michelle & J.Crew Vogue

michelle obama in jcrew fall.jpgSo remember Michelle Obama’s Vogue cover that we told you about three months ago?

We don’t know what she wears on the cover (we don’t really believe it’s Jason Wu since she’s clearly a fan of mixing it up and Wu’s had his moment in the spotlight), but we do know that she wears J.Crew in the accompanying editorial.

The shoot was styled by J.Crew’s Creative Director Jenna Lyons and features the First Lady in J.Crew’s still unseen Fall 09 collection.

We hope J.Crew’s site is ready to handle major traffic overload this time.

Since the redesign this spring, the website is the worst. It gives out regularly and often doesn't update when things sell out. Hope Ms. O is looking good!

I too would like to see Michelle in a designer other than Wu, but according to Washington Post "Obama is wearing a magenta dress by designer Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown. Her hand rests under her chin. Her left hand folded beneath her, [etc etc etc]"

I sort of loved how Michelle continued to mix things up-it sort of saddens me that Wu who got the best night, will get her best cover as well. spread the love michelle!

J.Crew + Wu + Narciso--what a formulaic rendering of her greatest hits.

Why not actually put her in some fashion? Perhaps a Balenciaga crin dress? The cover/editorial they describe sound better suited for Vanity Fair. It seems more like a profile than an editorial.

I have ordered from the J.Crew site quite a lot this month and there website is often down or having "technical difficulties."
Not to mention, their sale items are going like CRAZY... J.Crew always has the best sales though, so that's expected with all this hype.

1. I am all for Michelle Obama
2. I am all for Michelle Obama on the cover of Vogue
3. I am all for Michelle Obama being styled with respect to her position in our society (i.e. no human hair-covered Margiela bodysuits etc...this time =P)

but J-Crew FEATURED in Vogue? This is EVERYTHING that's wrong with American Vogue. If I wanted to see J-Crew's "Yet unseen Spring 09 Collection" I'll wait until I'm wading through the sea of J-crew catalogs inundating my mailbox in the coming months, not flipping through the pages of Vogue. It would sound just as absurd/desperate if Vogue (or any other American fashion magazine) were to do an entire editorial based on a new Banana Republic collection. It just doesn't make sense. One buys/bought Vogue because it is/was something you don't see everyday, something that entices and excites...not something I can find in every suburban mall in America.

For the record, I have nothing against J-crew (I buy flannels and ties there a couple times a year...) and I think it's fun/cheeky when fashion mags incorporate cool High Street pieces into their editorials (WAD/Nylon/Dazed etc.) and I do think it's kind of neat that J-Crew's creative director is styling her (PERFECT CHOICE btw) but should I really be paying for Vogue to see something I encounter every time I go to the mall instead of something I'm DROOLING at the thought of seeing Stephen Meisel shoot?

Am I reading into this too much or does anyone agree with me? I feel as though I'm let down EVERY MONTH. Do you know how long it's been since I've bought an edition of Vogue I've been able to read (fluently)? I love GG and I buy magazines COMPULSIVELY ($50-60 a month...it's so wrong...but so right)but the sight of Blake Lively styled like my grandmother wasn't the best way for conde to get my 4.95 (or however much vogue is these days). Sorry, rant. Thoughts?

#10/#11 -- don't apologize. It was a well-thought-out post and raises a good point. Why "preview" something we'll all see again very soon in our mailboxes? Maybe they'll get really crazy with the styling or something.

And agree with posters who said J.Crew's site is awful since the upgrade -- I don't really shop on their site anymore because I know it will be frustrating (slow to load, or half the items I click on will already be sold out.)

Guest #4; I don't think Michelle had a say in who she wore for the cover, did she?

Isn't it up to the shoot's stylist and Anna to decide who's featured?
