Michelle’s Vogue Cover: Out

michelle obama on cover of vogue small.jpgThanks to the ladies at Jezebel, Michelle Obama’s Vogue cover is out, after months of anticipation.

The First Lady clearly sticks with what she likes, donning Wu on the cover (which makes us wonder what the standing section at his show will look like) and striking a pose like a normal person (we love it).

There’s something slightly subdued about it, especially being the big Spring fashion March edition, but that probably has more to do with the beige room behind her and the fact that nobody wants to risk putting the President’s wife in something the American public might deem frivolous.

So will this cover be the saving grace for Vogue’s sliding newsstand sales?

Discuss!

Update: Vogue’s just posted most of the interview and two images from the shoot.

Jezebel had this up the majority of the day yesterday before they edited it at 8 last night to include the full size picture.

Old news, but I do love Michelle.

I'm surprised she wore Jason Wu again, but I guess we all knew it was coming. This cover has a "stately" feel to it.

she looks fantastic. i wish she had gone with a different designer other than wu, but the color looks gorgeous on her. the best part? vogue didn't ruin the cover by putting text on every square inch. yes! vogue's improved. i'm loving the new and fresh cover subjects.

I agree with #6: this cover is so graphically refreshing! I love that they did that....

Loves her!! But you are right #5, her smile doesn't look as natural as it normally does. But her pose and body are bangin'.

This looks kind of weird. Maybe it's just the scan or whatever? It has a "vintage" feel. I'm just getting a weird early nineties vibe.

I agree with #5 and #10. She doesn't look comfortable. But I do love how classy the magazine appears as a whole and less like all the other magazine covers.

I cant believe she wore Jason Wu AGAIN!!!

Not only am I surprised, I'm disappointed. He had his moment in the sun. Now let a new designer share some of the spotlight.

#11, it is a long held fact by now that model covers simply don't sell that well in the u.s. the magazine industry is hurting right now and they need to do everything they can to ensure that advertisers are still buying pages and newsstand sales are consistent if not strong. that being said, rumor has it you'll get your model cover in may to coincide with this year's model themed met gala.

11- I agree with you for the most part, but Michelle is a little different than Keira Knightly. Aside from the fact that the photog must have gone out of his way to give both of them the classic fug-the-cover unnatural head tilt.

Its not the best cover simply because they could have dont an iconic shot with her, but its still nice. Her face expression is truly not nice here.

i can't lie that her face looks a little awkward, but in general its a good cover. I agree with what other people said about the lack of obtrusive text, but I would have gone further and included the First lady... on the left and only kept the "spring fashion.." on the right. Who is going to pick up the magazine just because of a mention of Melinda Gates or Carla Bruni when Michelle Obama is on the cover. Is this US Vogue's one woman of color per year cover?

I disagree with all you negative commenters. I think that she looks natural. relaxed, and truly pretty. She is a great role model for all women, not just African American women. Not only does she have style, but she has substance.

I love her and agree with Fashionursta in many ways but I do think this cover is a little blah and lazy. I mean she's the first black, first lady. I wanted something, ground breaking, heartachingly beautiful. Her standing on a cliff, with a faux breeze blowing through her hair, her on the White House lawn in a gorgeous springy dress. . . something beautiful and happy. But you know. . . now that I think about it. . . she's not really a fussy, drama loving sort of lady. . . so maybe this cover is perfect in some strange way.
