My First Fake Louis, In One Act

Thursday, Feb 5, 2009 / 11:36 AM

my fake louis wallet small.jpg[Britt and Natalie sit in the backseat of a cab, on their way to the Doo.Ri Under.Ligne launch, last night. Taped to the back of the cab's partition is a cute drawing of a cartoon cab with the slogan "This is a happy cab" written above it.]

Britt (to Driver): West 26th Street, between…
Driver: 11th and 12th?
Britt and Natalie: Yeah…
Driver: Yes, I just took three people there, no problem!
Britt (to Natalie): Wow, this cab driver is really nice.
Natalie (to Britt): Well, it is a happy cab. [Giggle]
[Several minutes pass, during which the driver asks polite questions, laughs, and remains generally jovial while wearing his "Dooney & Bourke" baseball cap. The cab arrives at the destination. Britt exits, and Natalie waits for the receipt.]
Driver: Just one more second, sorry, it’s still printing.
Natalie: Oh, it’s ok! I really love this Happy Cab painting by the way.
Driver: Oh!
[The driver exits the car, leaving Natalie inside. As he rummages through his trunk, Natalie quietly opens the door, having decided to wait for the receipt while standing safely on the sidewalk.]
Driver: Here you go! One for everyone who mentions the Happy Cab!
[The Driver hands Natalie the small, "Louis Vuitton" wallet, at left.]
Natalie: [Making a face not unlike Jim from The Office] Oh -
Aaaaaand, scene.

Of all the injustices in the world…

Number 50, people who have commented are not being bitter they are just expressing an opinion abot the blog. Which is what these comment posts are for.
Maybe you should take it easy…

i loved how you typed “giggle”
LAME
no one wants to hear you laugh
seriously, the cab driver sounds lovely, and i wish you guys were more respectable. and all the people that are DEFENDING fashionista should also get a life. but yeah this is the last straw there are a ton of more informative and interesting and respectable fashion blogs out there that blog MORE often and with less crappy marker on magazine and then scanner crap.
and you guys said someone should take paint away from perez!
good bye fashionista

Well said #49. Actually those two don’t even deserve a fake purse.

I’m with you, #44. There was a time this site was first on my roll call of fashion blogs, but that time has passed. Fashionista, I understand the dilemma faced with either accepting or rejecting the offered coin purse, and thereby possibly perpetuating reprehensible practices and working standards. However, airing your concerns in such a rude, public, and frankly, juvenile, way is equally reprehensible.
I bid you farewell. There are classier blogs for me to support.

listen, nobody wants to hear you commenters say you are done with this blog. be done, leave quietly with an ounce of dignity and respect left.
most of you commenting have obviously never been in a NYC cab or else you would think it is really weird the cab driver got out of the cab in the first place. and for him to give a fake purse, at first glance it would feel like he was trying to sell you something. but to people who fight against this sort of this, it is kind of a moral dillema. plus, the writer didnt mention anything about being mean. most of you are just making things up.
why dont you really take the time to read the post before making an ill advised comment. most commenters seem to come off as ungrateful for the services which you indulge yourself in and jealous because other people are making it in the fashion world.

Agree with #56 :-)

Chill out, people. It was a funny story! I’ve been in Happy Cab!

well #56, i have lived in new york for my entire life, and i still think this was one of the rudest post i’ve come across.
honestly, i am so sick of all of you stuck-up “fashionistas” talking about how horrible the fake purse industry is. do you honestly think that all of your $1200 bags are made in italy? ha. that’s rich, really.
why does his “dooney and burke” hat deem a comment? a person’s clothes does not define who they are.
i’m apalled. you two are rich, spoiled, bratty girls.
MAYBE ALL YOUR READERS SHOULD RESEARCH A LITTLE BEFORE MAKING STATEMENTS THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT:

P.S. can anyone else point me to another fashion blog? where it’s writers don’t include whiny little tarts?

let me tell you something guest 59, maybe you should do your own research. i personally know these two girls and they are nothing even close to being spoiled or rich. on the contrary, they have worked their asses off to get where they are and they both have pleasant attitudes and arent bratty at all. for someone who doesnt like the site, you sure are making your point over and over. thanks

fashionista is going down, the writing attempts to be witty but simply falls flat. Good riddance

cmon girls, get your act together and bring back fashionista back to its former excellence!!posts like this make me miss faran:/

while I have to say I don’t always agree with Fashionista about their posts, I am fully aware that it remains their opinion and that in a free country, I am FREE to choose what to read and when, etc.
I’ve never been in a Happy cab though now I look forward to it. I think this was a funny but odd event and can chuckle along.

is this the kind of excellence you’re talking about?

must be a slow news for you guys to post something like this.. how many shows are you gearing up for next week? we want to hear about that.
not stuff we can read off of racked.com or fashionologie.com

dang forget about $1200 for a real bag, I wish I had $12 for a cab ride!
sheeeeeeeeeeeett.

i wondered why rodarte didnt send you custom made tights like they did with tavi. luckily i have this post to remind me. (answer: because you guys are pretty big jerks).

#60…
i have to ask myself, if you’re such good friends with brat and natalie then how come you are signed is as a guest.
if my good friends had a well-known fashion blog, i’d sure have a registered username.
food for thought…

why can’t you just be gracious? you have no class.

GUEST 59, YOU HIT IT RIGHT ON THE NAIL.

haha this post is too cute (and an Office reference, too!)! If I ever visit NY someday, I’ll look for the happy cab :)

No shade but this is just a bit snobbish. Not in a bad way, though. It’s expected if you experience the real thing regularly. If I were you I would have reacted similarly but I wouldn’t have let it show.

Aaaannnndddd??
This really didn’t even need to be posted. And I agree with everyone commenting on the snobbery. Way to think too highly of yourselves.

I have been reading and commenting on this blog for a long time. The ladies at Fashionista might not think so because I have a new computer which will make it seem like I’ve only been active on the site for a few weeks.
Anyway, the point is, the posts on this blog are becoming increasingly irrelevant. The new fashionista girls are trying to be cute and relatable with these posts. They are creating a backlash by not having any relevant or insightful posts about actual fashion. The most they can muster is news about how much seating is being cut back on at New York Fashion Week due to the economy. I fail to be convinced of any fashion credibility or inspired by this site.
Instead of checking it everyday like I used to, I decided to just read the posts this weekend, to stop giving Fashionista as much support as I used to. After coming across this post while not finding any other valuable posts, I think I am completely done with this website. As much as checking Fashionista is a habit, I’m willing to break this habit to withdraw support from the site.
I hope the writers get a reality check and start giving the readers what they want. If you want to make posts like this fine, but at least let these be your lesser posts and actually have relevant fashion posts. Is it not discouraging that this kind of post ignites the most comments of the day? That is not a result of the types of readers, its shows the decline in the quality of website.

I think the taxi driver is adorable. Sure it was weird for him to do that, but it’s New York, try finding someone who’s not weird in one way or another here.

I caught a cab last week and received one of those silly little fake wallets too! He was so funny and nice rustling around to give me that gift. It made for a much more fun day. simple things.

This story made me chuckle.

Are you aware that you come off sounding like an A-hole in this piece?

And what I want to point out about this action — or inaction — is that, interactionally speaking, it is a very simply action to perform. ,
