Sweet Sweet Marchesa

marchesa aw09 13.JPGWe’ve never seen a couture dress in person - at least not that we were aware of - but we always imagined it’d look a little something like the dress at left.

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig showed their Fall 09 Marchesa collection at the Chelsea Art Museum this afternoon. The girls, all of whom looked about twelve, were split into triptychs and apparently instructed to look miserable.

No matter, the clothes spoke for themselves. There were a couple of recycled Marchesa ideas but who really cares when recycling looks like that? We spotted a few McQueen inspired dresses, lots of sequins, shimmer and lace. Their inspiration? “Fairytales,” said Keren.

The shoes, square toed platform satin ballet slippers from Christian Louboutin had us practically swooning into the arms of Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas. We can’t imagine having a reason to wear such frothy gowns, but thank goodness we’ve got six months to justify the shoes.

Oh, and for the record, Little J’s raccoon eyes are so back.

Absolutely DIVINE. Ug. I wish I was a wealthy socialite with events and galas to go to so that I could wear everything. Including the chanel-esque black number with the tiered bottom and ribbon sash waist.

Marches ia a Harvey weinstein machine, what do you expect but clothes manufactured for his stars and Hollywood friends. They aren't real, or even pretend to be real. the designers, one being his wife doesn't have or take time anymore to work. She works the room now. Why even bother with this collection of look a like looks from everyone else. I had one telling experience on a single day, when 5 sewers and a patternmaker( all shortly before Weinstein married Geogina or whatever her name is)show up at my studio askind for work. They hadn't been paid in 5 weeks and were being told either work 7 days or forget about seeing a dime. That is the culture at Marchesa. The only difference now is they get paid....I assume. Halston can't be much more fun than that. The clothes are well done, but I think like so many others are products of big money spent at VERY exclusive Vintage stores and couture auction houses. I don't think they are original. But what do I know. I'm just a Spam pusher with a stupid name, to coin a phrase from one of your more astute commenters......

The girls looked miserable because they -were- miserable. At most presentations models get to change positions, walk a little, even sit...not at Marchesa (where they just stand for an eternity in super high shoes that aren't even sized right for them). Some of those girls looked like they were about to faint.

Blame Georgina, not the poor models for how sad they looked.

haaate the mcqueen reference on dress 2. marchesa is so tasteless, they simply should never be mentioned in the same sentence as him. the dress in image 7 is surprisingly good. i actually really love it. the louboutins are gorgeous of course! those last couple of dresses in particular (starting with the one before the red pants) should be filed away and never allowed back out again. unfortunately i expect them to be forced on some poor actress by harvey weinstein.

i love puffy dresses, so naturally i'm drawn to marchesa, even though i find harvey weinstein to be the scum of the earth. i can't say i care for any of the dresses not resembling some kind of discolored dessert, but i will be craving those shoes until i can somehow justify purchasing them.

Alright Fluff, we get it. . . you're an insider. Stop taking offence to something some ridiculous commenter said. This place is a regular cat fight, so roll with the punches. . .meanwhile, keep it coming, you're one of the most interesting people on here.

Apparently, you really COULD swoon over those shoes. I heard they were so uncomfortable, they turned the models' feet purple. Yow-ow-ow-ow-ow.
