Twas a Thrilling, Absolutely Chilling Run of the Ascot O’pning Race

when viv and stephen went to the races.jpgA reader once jeered that we’d love even a napkin if it was made by Vivienne Westwood.

They were totally right - we would. Because that napkin would be the coolest napkin ever.

And if she can make a napkin look amazing, imagine what she can do for Ascot, the beloved British horse races that last for five days every spring at the Ascot racetrack near Windsor Castle.

Anyway, the sort of old-fashioned tradition needed a bit of a pick-me-up so Dame Viv and her milliner equivalent Stephen Jones designed a new look for the races complete with the requisite hat and spring pastels.

Now if we could just land our own Henry Higgins, we’d be off to the races come June.

Oh, I thoroughly enjoy the My Fair Lady references! (I mean, really - how could you write this story without bringing it up? I'm not sure it's possible.)
And Viv + Ascot is thrilling!

Vivienne and Ascot are made for each other. Who else, absolutely ENGLISH complete with modern, post-modern and a richness of historical references be more in tune with an eye for this venerable tradition? She can and will turn Royal Ascot on it's aristocratic head! Brilliant!

Trust me, royal Ascot is NOT the "aristocratic" event My Fair Lady makes it out to be. Perhaps it was when that film was made and/or set but these days it's a total booze-fest and I was appalled at the low class of people who attend. There were even drunk couples making out (and worse) behind the stands. It was really disappointing.

Here's hoping Viv can restore some class to the races.
