Would You Wear

Would You Wear Two Shoes?

chris benz at hes just not that into you premiere on styledotcom.jpgDuring a high school field trip some years ago, I noticed that one of my classmates had two different sneakers on. As in, her left sneaker was from one pair, and her right from another. When I asked her about it she looked down, laughed, and said she’d overslept and literally gotten dressed in the dark and didn’t notice, and maybe wouldn’t have, until I asked her about it.

I hadn’t seen anyone else pull the two sneaker move until I saw this picture of Chris Benz from the He’s Just Not That Into You premiere.

A part of me really likes this idea - on the right person, it’s kind of funny, like a nod to junior high fashion antics. But on the wrong person (read: almost everyone, and definitely me), it would look a little like a move made to fit in with the art kids (read: juvenile).

It works on Chris, but Chris is also a tall, thin, cute boy, and it did work on Carrie in that LA episode where she wears different colored Louboutins, but the shades were complementary and designed to be so - plus, it’s TV.

So would you ever try wearing two different shoes at the same time? Or is this a sartorial switch that should only happen by accident?

I would be really pleased to see something like this happen! I agree it could esily be juvenille but if done tastefully it could open up whole new possibilities! Two different colord converse seems like an approachable way to start.

i wouldnt do it because the mismatched shoes most likely wouldnt be comfortable and it would look like you were trying too hard.

I used to rock two different converse all the time back in High School-- If I could afford to buy two of any other kind of shoe-- like a great pump-- I would so do it. It's fun and unexpected, which is what fashion is supposed to be about!

I have two pairs of Camper shoes that are designed to be mismatched. So it can work if done properly.

the LA episodes were some of the best of all that sunny optimism paired with Miranda's hardened NY shell and that drop-top Mustang Carrie drove, well attempted to drive. some of my other favorites is when Carrie decided to be a first lady and wear all those seventies inspired pantsuits (or maybe they were vintage. i also loved the episode where Carrie dated the stoner. this episode is key because it re-introduced mainstream America back to mainstream America by dressing Carrie in all those rock inspired tees which is still a prevalent theme in fashion today i.e; Balmian S/S

Eh, this is old news for me. When I was in middle school i'd wear one converse or vans slip-on and mix another from another pair. It's not all that wild or outlandish really. I'm thinking about doing it again because i have a bunch of different colored and textured converse high-tops and wish I could wear them all at the same time. Haha!

i recall several years ago when i lived in montreal, there was a sort of sporty shoe store that actually promoted a style of shoes as being mix-matchable. they were white with coloured details, and would actually let you buy the right shoe in one colour and your left shoe in another. It was sort of weird, but i almost did it(i used to wear two different shoelaces occasionally) but decided it would be fun to wear once in awhile but wouldn't want to sport mismatched shoes too often. I think there is a place for it as long as the shoes are the same style or relatively similar; don't do anything that makes you walk with a limp or hobble.

Two odd shoes = tramp (as in homeless person)!
Two odd shoes = person who got dressed in the dark!
Two odd shoes = try hard wannabe!
Two odd shoes = erm...crazy person!

I saw a kid at my school with two different sneakers on just today! One red and one black, and they weren't even the same kind or brand.

I admired him for having the guts and confidence to pull it off!

sometime last year i saw a picture of drew barrymore sporting the 2 differnt colored converse.
I've done that before but on accident... and it was actually the same color converse but one slightly older than the other. I only realized it because one was dirtier than the other.

Odd timing: I noticed yesterday that a girl working at the Neiman Marcus Last Call outside of Philly was wearing two different ballet flats - completely not matching.

If you're confident with yourself, then why not? Fashion is about the unexpected.

It's okay with me as long as it's the same shoe and just different colors.

I've seen people around my campus doing this. I may try it, although I don't have any Chucks that aren't either printed or some odd color scheme. I guess I'd be afraid that one shoe to one pair would wear down more than the other since, even if you switched them around, you don't walk exactly the same distance every day. Ok, maybe I'm just OCD now.

i used to wear one yellow and one turquoise converse together. i could totally see doing it with really simple silhouettes of shoes (and in the EXACT same shoe) - pumps or ballet flats.

people wear tights of two different colours(American Apparel),why can't we wear shoes of different colours?
I think it looks awfully cute, although you would need to ignore the attention or kindness of others telling you that you're wearing the wrong shoes..
