Not only does Chanel Iman have an upcoming guest spot on Gossip Girl following her House of Style stint this weekend, but it looks like the Ford model’s planning a much longer career on sets instead of runways.
She told Fashionologie that she’s “kind of slowing down on the modeling” which would explain how she’s going to accomplish her earlier statements to Teen Vogue, that she wants to do “television, film, music and designing. I want to do it all!”
So is Chanel Iman the next model-business a la Heidi Klum? Maybe.
We would wonder aloud whether this new career path of hers has longevity, but considering that she was born in 1989, we’ll hold off.

NO NO NO NO NO! This is a nightmare…. her high fashion career may be OVER! :(
i’m really happy for her, she’s awesome. I’m just worried that if she goes mainstream, like guest 1 said, she might start to fade from high fashion.
can’t wait for House of Style
I think models wanting to do “television, film, music and designing” is a much bigger tragedy than celebrities on the cover of Vogue.
Well guest 3 she might actually be very talented…….. so she can show you just how dumb you are!
Slightly OT, I can’t believe how stunning she looks in that pic. Gorgeous!
Modeling isn’t usually a life long career. Of course she should have plans for her future. Models often use their work as a jumping off point to get into television, nothing wrong with that. And considering the talent of most of the young starlets today, who aren’t models… if she can read lines i’m sure she’ll be just fine.
As for celebrities on vogue, how many people turn to US vogue these days for fashion, its a notch up from InStyle.
Her fashion career was doing fine. Coincidentally, other models of color have been getting booked for more shows than she has (Dunn!). I always thought she was too commercial looking but she proved me wrong over time. I just wish she would stay with modeling after she’s come this far. It also doesn’t help that she has her own Youtube channel. She seems like an overly eager teenager. Please accomplish one thing at a time Chanel
She’d be more like Tyra Banks than Heidi Klum, way too commercial
I think Chanel is smart to transition into other areas like TV now. She has the right personality for it: bubbly, high energy, but still down to earth. The high fashion brands that will be turned off by her MTV/entertainment work are not clients that will be or have been booking her anyway. She has had a really good year for editorials and it’d be a shame if this caused her to lose momentum there, but editorials don’t pay much and it’s clear by now that editorials aren’t translating into prestige campaigns for her. She’ll make much more money doing entertainment stuff, and probably have a lot of fun doing it.
@#3 – that is total hilarity!
to me, tyra and heidi made it because they are DROP dead. and they may have the talent/personality/drive to make it happen, but without those show stopping looks i dont think it would have. chanel isnt drop dead gorgeous. most people i know that appreciate mainstream ggeousness (ala alba) versus model gorgeous (lily d), dont find her that pretty. also, im pretty sure the reason i dislike her so much is that ive found she comes off as an idiot in interviews. i probably wouldnt have continued the chanel hate if not.
Well DONE #3, well done.
Chanel Iman… wear Louboutin shoes on GG. Please, that is all a I ask. Just so someone [love you S+B] can really, really put in some serious walking work.
You fashionista types may not like her transition into more mainstream work, but I’m guessing Ford is loving it. This is what pays the bills, kids, not strutting the runway of Balenciaga or Marc Jacobs. Yes, those are prestigious jobs but most high fashion gigs pay fairly poorly. That’s why so many of the girls at Women/Supreme actually don’t make that much money even if they seem to flood the top runways season after season.
So IF she can make that transition like Heidi or Tyra, she’s ensuring her financial independence for the future.
Amen #3. That isn’t to say she is a 1 trick pony, but there’s nothing sadder than someone believing their own press to the point of thinking they can do it , be it, have it all. There’s something called talent and hard work that need to happen first. Pretty is as pretty does, but muscle in the entertainment and fashion industry takes more than pretty. I for one don’t measure success by the Heidi or Tyra standard. They are unfortunates we’re forced to watch ( unless you change the channel like me)but will be forgotten as soon as their tenuous holds on their contracts end.
