Hypothesis: Fall 09 is mostly a season of repeats.
Proof:
1. Balmainia.
2. The entire decade of the 80’s turning up… everywhere.
3. Marni loving Prada perhaps a bit too much.
4. Jean-Charles Castelbajac sending his models onto the runway from a giant mouth a la Viktor & Rolf Spring 08.
5. Jeremy Scott giving out his Longchamp bag to Beth Ditto and Kanye West to tote around at the Fall 09 shows like it’s really Spring 06.
And so on.
Conclusion: Discuss!

And those were supposed to be the really good shows. Makes us wonder if the runways at L.A.'s Fashion Week will be on repeat, as well.

The Prada/Marni comparison is completely unfair to Marni. Consuelo has a consistent aesthetic and if you took the time to peruse Marni archives you would see those "Prada" looks weren't a knockoff, but part of the identity of the brand.
Also, these 80s references, nothing new and generally to be expected. Designers are looking back to the most recent era of power dressing and opulence to tap into people's desires. As far as the ubiquitous shoulders go, I'd credit it's origins to Margiela before giving all the props to Balmain.
Balmania, kill me already. Balmain is the reason I'm embarrassed to tell people I care about fashion. At first I thought Balmain was some sort of joke, a tacky, luxe Trash and Vaudeville update, but endearing enough to tolerate. After this season, I'm done. I couldn't care less and the popularity of the label represents the triviality of fashion, and why it takes so much effort to explain to people that fashion can be art.

I completely agree, guest 3 stole my comments about the Marni reference. Natalie, please tell me exactly when Miuccia created the check? Did you happen to notice that the Marni piece is a completely different silhouette and color way. Not to mention, the Marni piece features beautiful embellishment. What are you going to write about next? How Alexander Mcqueen invented the houndstooth?
